  • question about pacesetter headers fitment

Under fitment it says they're for the 2.8L motors. Would this still fit the 3.1L?

I apologize if this was already adressed in some other thread but the ones I found didn't quell my curiosity.

These headers will work for any 60* motor in a 3rd gen F-body.

Also in the fitment discription it says 90*, not 60. Comments?

I called summitracing just to make sure it was their screw up, and they confirmed that it IS a typo, so anyone else wondering like me, it'll fit all 60* motors. I know you guys who responded are screamin at me because you already said that, but hey. I wanted to make sure =P

No, that's fine. Better to double check before you get them home.

actually, the headers are only meant to fit 85-90 because the EGR valve changed on the 3.1. its an electronic type, it has a different mount than the older style. on my 88, i had to remove the back bracket on the alternator and loosen up the p/s pulley to get them to fit. the right side is a total pain to get in. i just installed them last weekend.

the base of the stalk itself is the same, as I put my 85 egr on the 3.4. yes teh actual top of the egr stalk & egr itself are different, but nothing was attached to the stalk on the 3.4.

So what does that mean for my 3.1? Will they not fit or will it just be more difficult to get them in?

They will fit any 60* camaro/firebird 2.8 3.1 3.4. Just the EGR may not hook up or work, with out some moding. Very important if you live in a smog check zone.

What kind of moding do you speak of? I haven't done anything in the ways of rerouting or fabrication. Also I don't know as much as I should about the EGR system.. Where does the exhaust gas exit the system into the EGR valve.. from the manifold or following pipes? With the headers, will that change?

newer cars have the air system hooked into each "header" pipe. So you would need to drill and tape hole or fab mounts. if ya got chrome lines running to each exhaust pipe, they aint gonna work without mods.

No of this matter unless you live ina smog check zone. as if you do live in one. The parts are illegal anyways. if not, you just ditch the EGr system and go on with life.
