  • spazzed speedo

Ok. So apparently everything in my car wants to die. My speedo dropped to zero one afternoon recently and stayed there.
Keep in mind I was still moving along at somewhere around 55. It spazzes every now and then and bounces around a lot, but doesn't sit on an actual speed and doesn't really go above 45. Connection problem or vehicle speed sensor crappin out on me? It also won't shift to OD because it doesn't think it's going fast enough, so travelling on highways at 3500 rpm doesn't do a whole lot for the gas mileage.

It does however keep my odo from advancing too much. When the speedo reads 0 it doesn't move. :D

Any input is well appreciated. thanks.

Does transmission fluid leak through the old vss?

No sir, atf stays where it should be.

Instead of the vss, could it be a stripped speedo drive gear?

No, what I am asking if you go under the car and look at the vss sensor, does look like its leaking. The dipstick doesn't give you an exact reading but more of an average. Even the smallest of leaks THROUGH the vss could fry it and you wouldn't even know you were leaking an trans fluid.

That's what I meant. It's staying where it should be i.e. it's not leaking from the sensor.

            I apologize for the miscommunication.

</font>[/QUOTE]Please just go under the car and verify it. While you are there, you can also inspect the wiring. No amount of advice will even beat visual inspection.

Let me start over with this. I looked at the vss and it was not leaking and the wires looked fine.

Also, I was curious as to how much fluid drains when you remove the vss. Would a total refill be required, or is it just a few drops?

If the car is level, it will not leak much. If the car is jacked up just in the front, then it will empty a lot.
