I've done a search on this both here and on the internet. Has anyone either recharged their stock R12 system or converted to R134? I've read many horror stories about conversions to R134 such as leaks, $400 jobs, seized cooling components, and R134 not cooling as well. I've seen lots of R12 "replacement" refridgerants for as little as $2/12oz can (no license required to recharge). Anyone done stuff like this? Opinions?

Buy the R134 conversion kit should cost you like $25-40. Comes w/ the can to empty all the R12 into it, a big can of R134 freon some oil to lubricate the O rings. You can also buy the kit to fix leaks it's a small two can system that really works (tried it myself). You can always take it to a shop, shouldn't be too much. Hope this helps.
