so im thinkin bout gettin my 83 running but it wont start...i was wondering what would keep it from starting? it turns over and evrything... 2.8 a3 v6 btw im gonna drive it till i get my new motor...

air, fuel, spark. one of those is missing.

If you think it is a fuel issue squirt a little gas or starting fluid down the carb (and I do mean a little). See if it fires. If not check cap and rotor for moisture since it has been sitting for so long. Check wires and plugs. Post your findings so we can give more help and ideas.

up intill i bought it it actualy didnt sit...the guy got it runnin and i drove it home...had to stay on the gas pedal or it would try to die...im thinkin its a choke or whole carb problem...how much would a new 1 cost for these 2.8's?

Check your spark and fuel delivery. Look around for a carb rebuild kit or buy a new one if anyone makes one.

replacement carbs for the vari-jet cain get expensive, and I'm not sure how to rebuild one (I've only done the quads).

edit: in no particular order, use your common sense, it's easire than retyping this.

Hose it down w/some carb cleaner & seafoam the gas. see if it'll clean out the carb.

also:
what do the plugs look like, is there spark, is it getting fuel, get some starter fluid.
What troubelshooting have y'all done so far?

lately we havnt done anything...but the guy i bought it from cleaned the fuel cell out,carb and other fuel components, plugs havnt been checked yet...my 96 has been acting up lately soo yeah
