What is this? The mighty Haynes manual (Yes, I know - go w/Chiltons) looks as though its an AIR pump switching valve, but it has coolant running through it.

You might find that ties back to your a/c system as well. I remember seeing something similar on my ex wife's truck and it acted as a diverter for the heater if I remember correctly. It may be totall diff on that application but that looks similiar to what she had.

It's the vacum operated divertor valve for the heater. I had to replace mine when i had my '92, it got stuck and stopped the flow of coolant to my heater core. Result before replacment: no heat.

Also known as the heater bypass valve. It keeps coolant from folwing through the heater core when the controls are in the "off" postion. You can bypass it if you don't want to buy another and the coolant will just flow through the core at all times. This won't change the function of your A/C because there is a block-off that covers it when the air is on.
