I've done a search for this and can't find exactly what I'm looking for. Last night (a cold one - about 20 degrees) I drove my car about 5 miles (mixture of freeway and city streets) w/o any problem, pulled into a driveway and it sat for about 15 minutes or so. I went out to leave and it would turn over, but would not stay running. I just had the engine rebuilt (3 yr - 100,000 mile warranty) last April and it's been runnin' like a champ since then. My gas gauge has been broken for years so I've just been depending on the float in the tank. It's entirely possible it's out of gas, but I wanted to mention that I cannot hear the fuel pump cycle (usually I can hear a whine when I turn the ignition on and the whine has been a lower-octave sound than it was even 2 weeks ago), and when the car would turn over, I'd push the gas to try and get it back to normal and a couple of times I could hear what sounded like a backfire, but it would never smooth out and stay going. I even let it set another 15-20 minutes and tried again, but same result. If it's not the gas (I'm not readily available to test my theory), is it the fuel pump?

Re: 92 Fuel pump?
Thanks. I realize that's kinda' a "duh" issue, but I found it hard to believe that it didn't sputter at all before I reached my destination. I'll be freaked if it just ran outta' gas in that instant.1992 Arctic White Firebird
3.1L V6, TB Coolant Bypass, CAI, Turbo Muffler, other little things.

http://www.geocities.com/colinobu/MyHomepage.html

\". . .Finger in the air and the flag still wavin\'. . .\"
