if the 5th gen weighs close to what a 4th gen does, then I just don't think the 4cyl turbocharged or not is going to cut it. GM would have to do some substantial weight reduction to make a 4 banger remotely exciting for this car.
I would imagine they would somehow adapt the FWD 3.9L to work in the new camaro honestly. What's it like 260hp? Wishful thinking here, I'd like to see the Caddy CTS motor in the new V6 camaro, 300+ horsepower. I just don't think it would be as cost-effective, as I am sure it is more expensive to produce versus the relatively 3800-like 3.9 liter pushrod V6.
Give the V6 guys some better transmissions too. My 5th gen will be a Z28 or SS, whichever they put as the top trim level for the drop tops.
\'97 Camaro M5 Y87 3.23 LSD, homebrew CAI, highfloCat, Flowmaster catback, Pacesetter headers, specstage3 clutch and aluminum flywheel, !egr, 2kW system.

Possible L67 bottom end w/ abbott heads and a turbo in the works... gotta do more homework
3.9L turbo... :naughty: I would say the 6 has to be more than the LT1's or at least the same. 275+ hp. Otherwise, they shouldn't bother. There are too many 6's in that range now like the Infiniti, 350Z, ect. If they don't make the V6 Camaro competitive with those cars, it might not sell too well.

3.9T? I'd take that over the LS2, reason being if I want more power just dial, that boost up and tune it and I'll be smoking LS2s :burn:

The current v6 charger (the 3.5L not the 2.7)has the power to basically run with the 04 and older v8 mustang. I believe that I read that their in the 250's hp wise and tq is 250ftLb's. The 2.7 is in the same ballpark as us stock with 178hp and 190tq. As for the 2009 camaro it is listed on the chevy site as the LS2 V8 400hp 400tq.
youre high, those things wont run better than a high 15, nowhere near being competitive with the 99-04 gt.
current car- 95 Trans am- bolt ons, parked and collecting dust. why? because **** it
I believe they will put a 3.9 similar to what is in the 2007 impalas...a lil more hopped up of course. probly pushin bout 250 hp and 260 torque. gettin bout 30 or so mpg.

I see why your saying that but I don't think it will work out that way. Infiniti and 350Z's are quite a bit more money so there gonna have better performance for the dollar.
The reason i'm thinkin that the new camaro will be a 3.9 very similar but a lil more upped than the impalas is because look at the past camaro productions, their v6's were the motors used in common passenger cars i.e. Impala, buicks, etc, but were givin just a few extra horses. Thats why i'm thinkin 3.9 liter like the 07 impala...I'm expectin stock V6 the car to run a 15.5-16.0...somewhere along that nature. Just my .02
The new Honda Civic SIs would walk it. GM Wouldn't allow such a befowlment upon their beloved base Camaro coupe.

I see the 3.9L also. It's used in the G6 GT, Malibu SS, and base Impala and Monte Carlo. I would expect to see high 14's. If a 2002 3.8 Camaro runs low 15's with 200 hp and 225 ft/lb, add 40 hp and 15 ft/lbs and as was mentioned earlier the new Camaro will be lighter, we should see mid-high 14's. Which won't put you next to a 350Z but you should be able beat a Mustang V6, Dodge Charger V6, and most imports.
Then you're just bolt-ons away from 13's.
I would like to see a 5 or 6 speed auto though. I drove an Equinox and it has a 3.4 with a 5 spd auto, and that thing never leaves it's powerband. Of course a DOHC V6 with VVT would be nice too, but thats just wishful thinking.
yea they will skimp on the v6s like usual (we got lucky that someoen had the bright idea of using the 3.8 in the 98+). As long as they are economical to a point and will outperform mustangs, they will be satisfied
