      Re: SS spotted!

There's not much there. Front face is different, door angles are different, the back goes up on the new and down on the old. All I'm saying is that if that was their intent like you said to remake an old car they failed in my eyes.

Look at where the lines flow on the b pillar of the old vs new, very similar. Throw a spoiler on the new one and it will pretty much match the old. And like you said the front is almost identical.

They took an old school design and modernized it.

Which is exactly my point. If that were chevy's goal they failed, dodge recreated the old design to modernize it.

We'll see how many people think chevys goal failed when it drops.

I still think it looks too much like a mustang these days. But then as some have pointed out, some of the old looked similar at some points in their history as well. I don't think I'll become a camaro owner. still looking for that lotus lol.

lol Lotus's are cool  the new camaro is awesome, but what i'm sayin is it isnt completely RETRO like dodge's challenger is. Or let me rephrase that, the camaro is about 50% retro and the challenger is 85% retro. It's good to go for nostalgia but you also have to appeal to todays car buyer and not just those of yesteryear.

If you have 40k to drop on a LS V8 wouldn't you rather put it into a vette? The V6's have got to be starting at the mid 20's I would think and even then there are cars that I would rather put my money down on which have more appeal. Just my .02 maybe it will grow on me but right now it's still pretty fugly.
And this is EXACTLY the reason why I went out and bought a C5. I'm tired of waiting on this car and I'm really not that impressed anyway. It's decent. But nicer than a Vette? ehhh... not really. The Vette is GM's flagship. It's sleek, fast, lighter, and built better. Plus, you can get a nice C5 in the mid 20's (or better) right now. I've seen 05's in the low to mid $30,000 range. Newer/used C6's for 40,000 or less.

I don't know how GM is going to pull this off. I foresee the same thing happening with this model as the 4th gen. It's going to sell very well the first year and then sales will decline. Hopefully I'm wrong but I think most people will opt for the Vette if they can afford it. That's what I did and I have no regrets. I was "thinking" about buying a new Camaro but I don't think about it anymore now that there's a Vette in the driveway. Besides, my favorite Camaro will always be the 4th gen . :)

So I read the last two pages and you all are saying exactly what I have said for over a year now. The new challenger resembles the older camaro better... it also looks better in the front then the camaro does.

Nice to hear some support. The other thing to consider with all these cars is the following. By year 20xx (don't recall exactly) all manufactures must have a median est. MPG for their fleet they produce. If you have multiple V8 models, i.e. camaro, vette, g8, whatever else, which of those will last? Your going to cut all but the vette because carrying all the others will drag your average down and the vette has been a staple for 50+ years. Bad timing for the camaro, challeneger, G8, even vette. Gas up, economy down, equates to crap sales and crap future.

A large majority of 5th generation Camaros bought throughout its production run will be V6s. To say that these ppl should just consider a used corvette is kind of ridiculous. First of all, as I said, most new Camaro buyers will be in the market for a V6, not a V8...think about the rising cost of fuel. Secondly, ppl will be buying these cars for the same reason that many ppl by new vehicles...bumper to bumper warranty, meaning no worries for at least 3 to 5 years. Thirdly, the ppl buying the V8s will be getting an exceptionally well-made car (built at the number one production plant in North America in quality, one that rivals rest of the world and every other manufacturer for the quality of vehicles that come off its line), that outperforms everything in its price range. Why are they getting this car at such an affordable rate? Because GM will be selling hundreds of thousands of V6s to offset the cost of the V8, providing a great V8 performer to the masses who cannot afford a bran new or even a used Corvette. Finally, the Camaro seats four, making this a quasi family car. You can throw the kids in the back...while they'd have to walk home if you owned a vette. So I just don't see any logic there.

For every V8 Camaro sold there will be probably 4 or 5 V6 Camaros, meaning the Camaro brand (depending on the fuel saving technology that goes into the V6 and the V8, i.e., direct injection and cylinder deactivation) might still avg. quite high in terms of mpg's. They're even talking about a 4 cylinder Camaro...some of you think that sounds ridiculous, but times are a changin'. Anyway, my point is that the Camaro brand may be able to find itself avging quite high...can you foresee the same thing for the vette? I'm not so sure.
