  • is anyone else disappointed?

    i dunno.

it seems like every number for the new camaro is disappointing.

the ls3's hp doesnt seem like a huge leap over the ls1 or 2, yet its displacements been bumped up more.

the fuel economy is the same.

the weight is huge compared to a 4th gen, and 05 mustang. though its roughly in line with other comparable models.

the 3.6l's 300hp is nice, but the torque was a little disappointing at 276 ftlbs.

the 1/4mi times were slower than the challenger. a stock 02 ran about the same.

i was also hoping for a smaller car, along the lines of the 4th gen stang.

i think im not as much of a camaro fan as i think. more of a 3rd/4th gen fan.

the 1st, 2nd, and 5th gen are like sporty large cars.

the 3rd and 4th are like large sports cars.

either way the price of the c5 z06 is dropping like a rock and i think thats where my 5th gen down payment is going to end up going.

im still holding out final judgement till i drive one.

new safety regs are going to make any affordable pony car for the next ten years, in the 3800+ lb range

im disappointed in the v8, but the v6 sounds great.
for a 4th gen SS was the **** but 5th gen SS is not exciting.
i was hoping that GM had some amazing new idea that was gonna improve performance or fuel economy or something.

Those numbers are just on paper my friend. Why do as you say in the last part of your post and wait until you test drive one. It may end up surprising you.

i totally understand where the weight is coming from.

it could be slightly lessened with a smaller car. but that wouldnt save enough.

id be willing to give up things like, having back seats. but then it wouldnt be a 2+2 or a camaro anymore.

im leaning towards vette at the moment.

I'm willing to take a hit in the performance department for the awesome looks of the new Camaro. I won't be buying the 5th gen when it comes out, but you can be sure I'll be getting one once my RS kicks the bucket.

I'm on the fence with the new one. I'll have to wait to see one live and in color.

                im reading around.

i have a little more faith in the ls3.

it looks like you can pick up 30hp with just a tune. someone put in headers and a mild cam, no tune, and picked up almost 100hp. (vettes.)

ive been mostly comparing it to the ls6 and stock for stock it just seems like a disappointment. but then again the ls6 isnt really all that "stock" to begin with. ie. the ls3 has more potential.

I'm a little disappointed by the weight too. I really was hoping that the newest Camaro would be a smaller car, but still retain a RWD v8. I have heard that the MPG may be underestimated, the G-8 is listed as getting 25MPG hwy, but reports by the mags are saying its really more like 27 - 30 MPG if you cruize at 60 - 75 when the cylinder deactivation kicks in (which I assume they include with the Camaro).

I am very impressed with the suspension design. Perhaps the weight can be reduced through diet... who needs a spare tire anyways? LS3 sounds like pretty good power plant to me.

Overall, I think the new Camaro will be an excellent vehicle. GM has had an excellent track record with quality and reliability in the past 10 years, I (and JD Power and Associates) dare say equal to if not better than those Japanese fellas. This will be a whole new Camaro.

ouch, i was hopin 19k or so.

i'm hopin to have 7k or so for a down payment on one of these bad boys, but whats the point if i can take the same amount of $ and buy a sweet 3rd gen camaro and drop in a crate motor for the same price?

anyhow, do we know the 1/4 time for the v6 camaro?

just want to compare it to the 3.4 and 3.8 as i know it weighs like 3800 lbs.

which is unofficial and pure speculation. GM has made no mention of pricing, V6 or V8

well isn't that a "general estimate" meaning it will prlly only be a thousand or so off give or take?

                            anyhow, what about 1/4 times?

can't we at least figure it out based on the weight (3800) and the hp (300) ?
