  • Orange 2010 Camaro in Philly

So yesterday I was heading down to Philly. on the way I saw a BEAUTIFUL orange 5th Gen Camaro rolling on 676 heading into philly. It had a bunch of advertisment magnets all over it. Gary Barbera's logo was on the car, so I am guessing they are going to be selling them..... =) MMMMmmm Just can't wait. I wasn't to thrilled with the look from the chevy webpage, but then the pics started to sway me. Now seeing it in person.... =) I am so in line for this!
The one thing I didn't like about it.... VERY quiet... Didn't have a good exhaust system on it. =/

Indeed, the SS models I have seen are silver and black and the orange is a V6.

I would like to ask Mr. Lutz of Gen. Motors as we both look at the 2009-10 Camaro.
"Mr. Lutz....given the resources of G.M.....is this the very best you could come up with?"
"How is it that small manufactures in Italy, England and now in San Jose the Tesla,
can come up with a much sleeker, modern designed car than you could?"
Finally, "Opel has made a high output 4cyl mid engine sports car since 2001
in Europe...is there any reason why it would not sell in the US?"

And I think Mr. Lutz would respond to you with something similar to the following:

"GM has been putting its impressive resources to good use in recent years. We have developed and are prepared to shortly release the world's first lithium ion battery powered hybrid, Chevrolet Volt with technology we hope to use in many other applications. I would also like to make you aware that cars that appeal to Europeans do not necessarily appeal to North Americans. We have the Sky and Solstice, that I believe sufficiently appeal to ppl in the market for a small and relatively exciting sports car and bringing in another model would not bode well for these cars. Finally, the Camaro is a niche car...a niche we have not filled since 2002. Ford, and now Dodge sales in this niche market are quite impressive, and GM can no longer afford to go without a powerful, yet affordable sports coupe in it's lineup."

              haha...just playing along

Well I would say to him: " if things are so good, how come things are so bad?"
Why is a Wopper with fries more money than a share of GM stock?" I would hate
to hang until that Volt is on the lot....45 miles is great range if you only go to
the Winn Dixie and back but other than old Folks in Florida its not going to fly
with the rest of the nation. I think this is classical example of experience v. judgement and your judgement is poor at best. Mercedes, Volvo, Volkswagen and BMW and Mini Cooper are European cars and they seem to be selling just fine.
                I thought you knew.

FYI, the volt has a range of about 500 miles with a full tank of gas...its a hybrid...it'll do 50 miles on the batteries alone...so your whole spiel on it not being adequate for the avg American is misinformed.

You've done a good job of naming a few luxury brands that benefit from German engineering and sell for two and three times more than most GM models. The major difference between GM and these brands is that avg individual can afford one. So unless you want to have to pay $50k+ for your Malibu so that it compares better to a Mercedes, BMW or Volkswagen you just make no sense.

Gm also has a luxury brand...it's called Cadillac and if you read much of the auto literature you'd know that Cadillac has made vast improvement in recent years, and now matches the quality and performance of the German brands.

What do you got to say to that?

Re: Orange 2010 Camaro in Philly

We as a society are not going out and buying new cars the way we do with the economy is booming. The US is the biggest market for every car manufacturer, so the lack of sales will hit everyone. Everyones sales are down even the mighty toyota's. Gm has an even more uphill battle because they have alot of debt, namely pensions, healthcare etc thank to the unions. All those imports you named don't have to deal with that. Mercedes learned the hard way how the american companies operate especially ones with unions. Mercedes basically ruin chrysler. They bought Chrysler for 10 billion and sold it for less than 4 with a ten year period, not to mention dragged their quality into the dumper.

The economy will also hit mercedes and bmw/mini coopers. The people who buys these cars have much more disposable income and that will take longer to hit those manufacturers. All those yuppies who live with mommy and daddy and go out and by those bmw's are gonna find it alot harder to get the financing they need to drive a car basically outside their means. With banks tightening down on credit, its going to be harder for everyone. The Europeans are going to get hit with the same crap.

Re: Orange 2010 Camaro in Philly

Leasing pumped up car sales and I think that is going to change. If you don't have
a downpayment and good credit you will not be having new wheels. Now the new Camaro is targeted at the demographic who are least likely to be about to buy it.
Instead of building a car that could appeal to all they came up with this retro, gas
hog...and I predict there will rebates on them within 8 months of their introduction
date. Its all about judgement on the part of GM management and they have poor judgement as shown in the last 7 years. They need a new team of people who know something about marketing not a crew that thinks a 12 Cyl Cadillac or a 500 hp
Corvette is what is going to save GM. The "Volt" is an unfinished project...they do not yet have the software or batter technology to make and sell the damn thing.
The Tesla is a finished car and they have plenty of advance orders. The French have
a car that will run on compressed air.....Now, who is looking ahead and who is looking behind. By the way GM is now looking to merge with Chystler.
