are you implying that, to be an accurate "retro" 1st gen, it has to have t-tops?
No, of course not. Retro wannabe. It's obviously "Retro", but w/o t-tops it's a wannabe. If you look back to the last time there was a model you couldn't get t-tops on... well, many people opted for the smaller motor just to get t-tops. This was the 91/92 model year when the 350 TPI was unavailable with t-tops. To sell the cars most dealers would order a 305 AT and t-tops. Look just a few years later and you couldn't buy a Trans Am without T-tops, GM knows what was a big appeal for F-bodies.... T-TOPS!

Ok, Mr. F-body guru, tell me how, with the b-pillar at such a near-vertical angle, that GM engineers can give that car t-tops and have more structural strenth than a tortilla shell, without adding another 150 lbs of supports and pig iron

Make the B pillar at less of a vertical angle. They managed to do it in 1982, they can pull it off in 2010.
You maybe missed, this is MY opinion of the 5th gens and why you won't see one in my garage.
If T-tops is such a big concern, I am sure those that want it can have ttops fabricated at a body shop....it's just going to cost you through the nose...
I'd like to see the t-tops, although I think the whole design of the car pays homage to the first gen, which of course was t-topless...so I don't really see a problem here.
The other thing is that GM might have something in the works with respect to t-tops for a midlife refresh. I think this could be a good strategy for GM...just think about all the ppl who will go out and buy the 2010 model, then want to go out and buy another 2014 (or so) model with t-tops.
Depends on if someone comes up with a good aftermarket option or not. Back in the 80s Cars and Customs made T-tops for Thirdgens, I think it was around 2k installed? I have a 88 Trans Am with the C&C T-tops, they really aren't any better or worse then what GM could do at the time.

too bad 3rd gens also came from the factory with T-tops; their chassis was already built to have t-tops. The 5th gen's, is not....there isn't even a center brace, like 77+ f-bodies have, to build a T-top roof off of. So, even coupled with inflation, it'd be much more to install and modify a 5th gen. to have t-tops, even for an aftermarket company...the level of fabrication would probably cost more than a high-mileage 4th gen. Putting t-tops on a 5th gen isn't like putting t-tops on a hard-top 4th gen...the process is more similar to putting t-tops on a 94+ mustang
First gens had a Vert option, I know for sure in 69, and I am pretty sure 68. T-Tops didn't come along until the late 2nd gens, and it was Hurst that started it, iirc.

I 100% agree..
I think they will save it for later. Look at the redesigned Mustang, looks like the 05 Mustang and the 05 looks like the old one. Yet the newest one doesnt look like the old one.
I think the samething will happen with the Camaro, its next design will come off of the 5th gen and most likly not look like 1st gen. That is when we might see the return of Ttops...

I tell you what..
you buy a 5th gen, bring it to my home. I'll put t tops in it for free..
I'll even provide the glass, strips, t bar, holders, headliner, pillars. all of it.. lol
I'll put ya a set in it.. After I :slap:. lol
