they're not going to a dealership...if that were the case, they'd be on flatbeds

I know...that means that some people must own them already...

My guess is that they belong to people high up in the chain of command associated with this project...(therefore they get first dibs...)

these are likely GM owned vehicles out for testing before the production release in the next few months...

no one owns them...I remember hearing GM was giving a number of Execs and upper management a few 5th gens for a few months to do some final testing on the vehicles and to get feedback that might be helpful in marketing. These types of vehicles are usually brought back for further testing or they get destroyed after this sort of thing.

Highly unlikely. In big, national companies like GM, those "high up in the chain of command" are rarely ever in the same timezone as one another, much less the same city.

I guess that makes sense...why would they destroy those though? Why not auction them off or something?

when he says "destroy," he doesn't mean "blow them up with a box of dynamite." They're just dismantled and recycled

the box of dynamite actually sounds like fun... but why even recycle them...I mean, unless they further make changes to those vehicles...those are technically the production cars...why not circulate those as like the "originals" and they are worth the most $$$ kinda like a collecters edition type of thing...

...because the people who would want a super-duper rare collector item like that, and would pay an exorbant amount, already are on dealership waiting lists to get their zero-mile, regular production car, built especially for them...not a ragged-on prototype/mule.

I don't even think these models would have VINs as they are not intended to be sold to the public. I agree, it seems like such a shame to dispose of them, but you have to remember that these are still pre-production and GM probably couldn't afford the bad press if it were to sell a pre-pro model and its tranny or engine blew, especially not when it's trying to market the car.
