is everyone forgetting that the SS is not the top of the line 5th gen? if all goes according to plan *fingers crossed* the z28 will be a 550+hp cadillac CTS-V supercharged derrived monster. the SS is just a taste of what's to come if GM can hold the project down.
and besides, a bolt-on 5th gen SS would rip some pretty solid times on the strip.
with the current financial problems at gm, i dont expect to ever see the z28 make it into production
check the last issue of MotorTrend man, the cover is about the Z28 along with full article giving projections. "the plan" is to take the same engine out the the cadillac CTS-V (LSA) and throw it in the camaro since it is all based from the corvette, the block is rated at 556hp@6100 and 551tq@3800 and projects the Z28 to possibly hit 60 in under 4 seconds.
as i said, it's still in limbo as to if it will happen, but i didn't just "speculate" those numbers.

not saying you were speculating on the numbers, but all this talk about a z28 is speculation...GM does not have a plan, at least not one they've shared with the public. I'll have to read the motortrend article tho.
Motortrend and other car magazines aren't very reliable sources of speculative information. Gossip about cars is still gossip, they seem legit because of all the numbers they throw around. Not to say that the articles in them are always totally false, but when it comes to what a company may or may not do based on "sources inside the company" and not according to any official statements released by them I'm always skeptical... sometimes in many cases (not just car companies) "sources" release info like this simply to spark debate among consumers and gain interest in the company...
Rebuilding the engine... Building a custom front end... T-top conversion... Custom rear hatch..
Custom interior...
it wouldnt make any sense for the first time in camaro history the Z28 is more powerful than the SS?
i was thinking the same thing lol.
and for the lt1, theres no point comparing a modded car to a stock one. besides the SS is stock and pushes out roughly the same as your modded car isnt that a good step? put the mods you have on your lt1 to the ss and try those numbers again.
just my two cents, i dun like it when ppl compare stock cars to modded cars lol.

I have said the same thing before and people told me no, that is how it is supposed to be base, SS and Z28. But I thought with at least the old Camaros SS was above the Z28(if not in power, in price and prestige).
Going back to the first gen, the SS was the base model, while the Z28 was somewhat of a performance package with upgraded suspension, transmission, etc. I guess where it gets confusing is that the Z28 actually had a smaller engine than the SS and that was because it was required for it to compete in certain racing series.
So, having the Z28 as the top dog isn't really conflicting with tradition.
