over my winter break i plan on camming my car, I think iv'e decided on the gt2 cam, what else should i replace? springs/lifters/rockers?

also, im getting my heads and intakes ported by lethal performance

i dyno'd at 215/230 with boltons, how much should i dyno with heads/cam?

will my 5speed transmission hold this power? i have heard they dont hold very much power

    Re: Cam questions

I thought you said you dynoed 192hp and 215TQ? M5 will hold about around 300WRHP & TQ before you start breaking gears off, mine broke 3rd gear off back in the day with a Spec 3+ clutch. With a cam I would replace springs Comp 105's, retainers ZZP modded , pushrods Comp 5/16th, and lifters Comp OEM while your at it. Stock rockers are fine their 1.66 to almost 1.7 ratio rockers. Also depends what your going to do with the car keep it N/A or FI?

      Re: Cam questions

well i dont want to change tranys, so it will stay n/a most likely, the 193/216 was an old dyno with the headers that only had 3 bolts in them (other ones fell out)

        Re: Cam questions

did you get a quote or something for the ported heads/intakes?

I wanted to go with ARH heads and have them do a set of intakes as well but its pretty pricey.

stock with bolt on's 215/230 seems pretty high, some with 1.9 rockers will dyno 205/215 around there with full bolt on's. Your dynoing like you have a cam in there already, you have the dyno sheet?

            Re: Cam questions

no he put it in my passenger seat and idk what happened to it, when i get the cam i will go back and dyno it

and the heads queston, i know the guy who works at lethal, so he is hooking me up, but idk what he is charging me, he hasn't given me a for sure answer yet, ill let you know when he tells me for sure

what kind of gaskets will i need to do the cam swap, head gaskets, lim,uim etc.

also, what all is done in a "motor rebuild", can this be done with the engine in the car still?

              Re: Cam questions

I think zz performance has cam kits, you should replace your gaskets too

I just dropped a brand new engine an tranny in my car, it was more cost efficient, I paid 1,350 for the NEW engine it was a short block

a rebuild shouldnt cost that much, what did you do with your old engine?

                  Re: Cam questions

215/230 stock with bolt -ons and tuning has to be a mistake unless he scaled it to higher #'s on the graph. Noone on this board or the other boards have never came close to those #'s stock with tuning and bolt-ons. Guys with cams dyno around there some more than that. Your not z38camaro are you? LOL most dyno in the 190's HP and 200's TQ.

                    Re: Cam questions

i dynoed 193/216 with only 3 bolts in my drivers side header, and the 3 that were in there could all be hand tightened they were so loose, and that was with the original stock tune, since then, i have gotten new header gaskets, and all the bolts in there so no leaks, tuned, aluminum driveshaft, msd wires and some other things i am forgetting

when i go back to the dyno ill be sure to keep the sheet in a safe place

                      Re: Cam questions

I'm just saying guys with full bot-ons , tuned and 1.9 rockers haven't dynoed that high and guys with full bolt-ons with long tubes haven't dynoed that high. So the tuner can scale the graph 1-5 which can up the dyno #'s. The 193/216 is what some have dynoed and some less than that in th 170's/200's. Just saying 215/ 230 with no cam, rockers or engine work is hard to believe if you look at peoples dyno #'s with the same mods or more done than yours.

                        Re: Cam questions

215 does seem really high; you sure he did the run in 4th gear and not 3rd? I know when I had my car dyno'd he asked me which one was 1:1 as he didn't know. What kind of dyno was it? You sure it was callibrated right? Anyways, my car with stock internals (except the GT2 and !balance shaft gear) with full boltons and a tune, did 235rwhp/232rwtq on a Mustang dyno (more realistic #'s). That's nearly 295 at the flywheel. Get a good set of heads and some longtubes and you'll be set :)

it was on a dynojet, i assume it was calibrated right, everyone elses numbers were about what they were expecting, maybe my car is a freak? i dont know, anyways, back to cam questions!

radracer, what other internal engine mods were done with your cam install? how manyy days did your install take?

Swapped in the cam, ported my intake manifolds, and removed the balance shaft gear. That's it; stock valve springs, retainers, lifters, etc. This is on a new-used motor with roughly 20K on it when I got it. I've put 40K more on it with no problems. Install of the actual cam didn't take long, but I did a full motor swap at the same time; first time I put the cam in, my dad and I did it over the weekend and my friend's shop. With the right tools and all, it could be a day project.

As for the dyno, dynojets usually read high from what I'm told.

well my car has almost 140k on it, so it would probably be a good idea to change out some things
