    Re: 3.4 headgasket

Is part 106 (looks like a heatshield but in the book it says gasket) get tossed when replacing the exhaust manifold gasket ?

no sealant on the bolts, maybe a light coat of oil.

I would use cam lube or regular engine oil on the rockers/pushrods/lifters for lubrication purposes.

Adjusting the rockers never gets easy no matter how many times you do it on these motors, i don't care what anybody says. Follow haynes manual and hope for the best!

in the manual its called a heat shield/gasket. I have a felpro gasket from the set that looks nothing like that so i wanted to know if i use the felpro and ditch 106 or what ?

              Re: 3.4 headgasket

i say ditch the heat shields and go buy some header gaskets for a late 80's fiero. They are WAY superior to the ones that come for the 3.4 in the kit.

I used moly based grease the first time i tore my engine apart, then after tearing it apart soon after i found most of it was still there and was gumming up my valve covers etc. It's too thick imo so go with a cam lube or just regular engine oil. get a small pump can and just squirt them up before you put the vc's on.

should you be able to spin the push rods when the rockers are fully adjusted ?

not if you did it right. Zero lash is when you can't spin the pushrod freely, however if you really try to spin it hard you can probably get it to move. if the valve train feels a bit loose, it's not the end of the world as long as you know you followed the correct procedure. It takes time for the lifters to "plump up" with oil etc.
