The only reason to swap to the V8 rack is for the quicker ratio steering.
Do you have a LS1/LS6 intake?
Good luck with the engine swap,I would love to do one in mine:)
also on switching to the ls1 sterring rack, u would need to do this in order to clear headers for the 6.0 also. go onto ls1tech, & talk with a guy on there names the_merv he has put a lq4 (stroke to a 408 now) in his 95 camaro, has a ton of info for this swap!
there is so much other stuff you need to make this work....
fuel lines/fuel pump
fuel rail
injectors
exhaust manifolds
oil pan
gauge cluster
radiator
accessories (ie* power steering and alternator)
trans mount
engine mounts
k member
cross member
and thats only half of the stuff you'll need
Fuel lines on the V6 car will be fine - The only difference is the V6 cars have a return line so you need a Corvette Fuel Rail for the return line.
Fuel Rail - See above
Injectors - Shouldnt the motor come with these?
Exhaust manifolds - Longtubes FTW
Oil Pan - Yeah you will need this.
Gauge Cluster - Not necessary, with some slight tweaking the V6 cluster can be made to work just fine.
Radiator - Do the Throttle Body Bypass, not necessary.
Accessories - I am not 100% certain on this, but the mechanic who was ready to do my swap said some of my V6 accessories can be reused, including both the alt and power steering pumps. But in either case you WILL need relocation brackets for the FBody LS1 style motor.
Trans Mount - Should be reusable...
K-Member - You can tap/drill into the bolt holes if you don't want a new one but while you have it down you may as well get a tubular one.
Crossmember - Depends on what kind of trans he's replacing his T5 with... An A4 will likely need a new one though.
I'd like to know what the cost is on the LS1 parts you will need such as the oil pan, accessories or brackets, intake, etc.
I'm debating finding a cheap non-running V6 Firebird in good shape (~$1000) and swapping in a 5.3. But if I'm going to be spending almost as much on the other conversion parts it may just be cheaper to buy a T/A in the first place. I can get a engine/trans combo for $500-600 if I hunt around - will the other parts add up that much?
Thanks for the tips everyone. Yeah I forgot about the oil pan; I will have to aqcuire one of these. Ive got the LQ4 fuel rail and injectors, but I guess I will need a different rail. Like I orig stated I do have the k-member and accessories, and plan on running some long tubes. I will be installing a T-56 when I get the funds. I can make a cross member for it easy enough. Ill send old merv a message and see if he already has a list put together for the swap.
Keep us updated on the information you find and what all needs to be done for this swap. I've been looking into an LQ9 swap lately and wouldn't mind learning a little more from a fellow V6 member.
'99 Camaro
'04 Saab 9-3 Aero
'90 Audi Coupe Quattro
I put an LS1 in my 93 Camaro (3.4L). Most of the info above is correct. I would use the accessories from the truck engine though.
On mine I did have to swap the k-member (I used an UMI tubular one) and the intermediate steering shaft. I used aftermarket gauges and swapped out the dash for a 98 Camaro one.
LQ4s are badass; I want to put one in my 72 firebird.
Also, consider using a TH400. They bolt right up to LSx engines very easily. Only thing I had to do was use a Hughes spacer.
And yeah man, ask the_merv a crapload of questions. lol He sent me in the right direction when it came to wiring my fuel pump relay wires. Then again, you're carbed, so yours might be different.
If you have any questions man pm me, I'd like to help if I can.
Alot of LS1 guys use 5.3 heads too, don't know exactly why but I think it ups their compression.

Yes the 5.3 heads have a smaller combustion chamber and can also be had for real cheap. So ls1 guys bolt them on and get a slight bump in compression
I knew I added the 02 LS1's and 00' 5.3 GMC/Silverado truck's to my HP tuners for a reason.LOL Thanks for the answer Ryan I was guessing but I knew it was something like that.

Hello every one, ozzy here ive been looking at this page for weeks now finally joined. So my question is why is it that every turbo build forum just ends...
Just ordered some Toyo 315/35/17 tires for my 17x11 rims. Hopefully I can get them on the beginning of next year. Will post pics.
