  • Is the L36 crank/balancer bolt reusable?

I am getting ready to swap an 05 Buick FWD L36 into my 99 Firebird and I need to know if I can re-use the crank/balancer bolt or if I should go ahead and order a new one? I've been working on LS1's for years but this is my first experience with the L36. I know the LS1 crank bolts are TTY and can't be re-used.

Their TTY, not to expensive, better to be safe than sorry later on.

I reused mine when i did my cam install over 10,000 miles ago and never had any problems. I was also talking to my machinest about it, a lot of bolts that are labels TTY are not always so. I would do this. If you are at all concerned about it buy a new one, they are cheap, just like SSMS said. Just my .02

Thanks for the quick replies! I will definitely buy a new bolt since they are only like $13. I can't find a part number for the washer that goes behind the bolt, I assume it is safe to re-use the stock washer?

Yes , the washer will be fine. I know I picked up 2 cam bolts and 2 crank bolts , just in case in the future if needed, plus I used my Dads GM dicount before he retired from GM.

j/w why you are swapping out the balancers? The FWD one should work from what i'm seeing

I was just assuming they are different between FWD and RWD engines since just about everything else seems to be different. I don't have the FWD engine in yet, it is supposed to be coming in this week. I will definitely check first though.

I have one sitting here (not enough time to work on it though) and they both look and measure up very cose. The designs are a little different, but I assume they spin the same way

if it is a gtp balancer then it is for sure different as they run a dual belt setup

ya the heads are different on the gtp motor also. Mine's a gt1 motor and it seems the same
