Ok, I just went through 500+ threads....I want to know who has SI valves on there car...and who has had them break on them.

For those of you who have had the valves break on you, what was the setup that you were running when they broke?

    Re: SI valve questions

More and more questions...I know the ZZP valves are also having problems from what I understand, but I got a question...the zzp valves are exact LS1 blanks...in order to install them you need new valve guides, and you need to shim the rocker arms...does that mean we can buy LS1 valves and just use those as long as we put in new valve guides, and shim the rocker arms? or am I missing something?

SD has awesome prices on LS1 manley valves...I can save 150-200$ by going this route...maybe even more if I keep watch over at ls1tech...but I want to clarify before I go out and buy stuff and am stuck with crap that wont work.

      Re: SI valve questions

you would need longer pushrods also if using a longer valve and shimming the rockers.

        Re: SI valve questions

Pushrods is not a problem...Im pretty sure I need to get different size ones because of milling the heads down anyways...I just want to be sure that an LS1 valve will infact work on these cars...because the LS1 manleys are less then half the price of the custom manleys I would need to order to fit this car, and 1/3 of the price of the intense set...

here is what I am looking at....I was thinking about emailing zzp and talking to them about the size of the zzp valve in comparison to an LS1 valve, just to be sure that it is infact the same.

          Re: SI valve questions

I think I'm going to use my stockers since I'm only running low boost. There are guys running 130lb springs and 20PSI+ and still running strong. But I have asked a machine shop and they can order the mainleys but for $300-$400. I might go and check them out since I want my guides milled down some.

              Re: SI valve questions

I had SI's in there then swaped them out for new OEM replacements. Don't want to take a chance, but then I'm not going to run more than 15 PSI of boost about 10-12 PSI.

                  Re: SI valve questions

well i was just gonna let this all go...but i talked to SI. they said they have never had a problem with their race valves. its the exact same diameter that we run in our 5.4 twin 76 cobra that has 270lbs seat pressure. way more then any 3800 i know of has ever run.
and not only that. they said anyone who has ever claimed to have had a valve problem was asked to send in the broken valve for inspection. and nobody has ever done it.even knowing that at the very least the valves could have been warrantied.
their tech department said any valve failure they have seen was more torching from crazy high egt's and bad tunning.

take it for what its worth...

thanks for the info...question is though, is the SI valves they sell on ZZP race valves? or where can I get the SI race valves then?

And how long have you run it in that cobra? how many miles? I ask because some people run setups like that but intend to rebuild after a year or so?

                      Re: SI valve questions

The only thing with my SI valves is they are the Competention ones from ZZP so they are not the race valves they have, and when I talked to SI and ZZP they both said not to run 130lB springs and not to run with a turbo, so thats why I installed the stockers back in.

                            Re: SI valve questions

FYI, I talked to zzp about there zzp valves...they said they cannot be used with an LS1 as they have been modified...he said that they were "ground smaller, tip resurfaced lower"

I am not sure how much work that is for a machine shop to do, I am going to ask my buddy when I get a chance. But if it is not alot of work, you can get the race valves from SD for 10$ each (rather then $26+ or more from manley or intense)

I may look into having this done as well depending on how much work that actually is...
