I'm flat broke right now so I'm just gonna go stock. Im not sure if its just a blown head gasketor if there's more damage. Hopefully I didn't warp or crack a head.

I've done a search before on this, and I've read that the pass side lift bracket is a pita to get off. Is there a good way to get that thing off or should I just break it off.

Dont break it off in case you ever have to lift the engine from the top. Once you get your intake manifold off, you can get at the bolts that hold the bracket on a little better.

You mention getting beat by a Honda. What caused the head gasket to blow?

I would bring the heads down to a machine shop and have them checked before putting it all back together.

Also the bracket can be a pain. Once you get it off, just leave it off. Engines on these cars most of the time are done through the bottom.

to get the bracket just take a 2x4 and a big hammer and pound it until it bends...

                    Re: head gasket :(

Thanks for the info guys!!! Well I went to see the car last night, and I checked the oil, still full on the dip stick, and the water looks poopy. so I decided to start the car and it ran fine at idle, but I pushed the gas a little and it started making a nasty knock but would go away when the rpms would drop. Right now I'm a little confused. I changed my coolant out a few months ago because it was brown, and about a day or 2 later it turned brown again, which I'm sure was from the dex cool that was in it. So I don't really know if its a head gasket or not. I guess ill find out when I get it towed home and ripped apart.

                      Re: head gasket :(

So I started the car up again yesterday and let it warm up. The oil pressure was at 60 lbs, and the car ran fine. It did knock a little upon startup but quickly went away. I described the symptoms of the problem to a buddy of mine and he thinks I might have spun a bearing, does this sound right to you guys? I'm completely stumped.

                        Re: head gasket :(

Ok, I towed the car home the other day and I had it running so I would have pwr steering/brakes. I got almost all the way home when it started knocking at idle so I killed it. When I got in the driveway and un hooked the strap I saw muddy looking oil running off my k member, so I'm pretty sure its just the gaskets that need replaced. I did a little more searching, but couldn't really find what I need though. I'm just looking at what all I need to buy to do my head gasket. So far all I can think of is upper & lower intake/head/header/tb gaskets, head studs, and rocker arm bolts. Does this sound right to you guys? I might buy springs, retainers, and mabey some high ratio rockers, but that's a big mabey. If I could afford it id get a cam, but I'm broke.

                          Re: head gasket :(

Well, from the sounds of it. It is a head gasket. BTW. running it on idle was probably the worst thing you could have done. you should have put some head gasket repair in and then put a **** tone of oil viscosity enhancers. I'm CRAZY about maintenance, and sir what you did was uh NO NO. When water get in the oil. its bad FOR THE MAIN reason of it getting between your bearings and washing them out..thus causing friction and THAT'S the most part of how a spun bearing is caused. honestly. if i were you. Id either take the WHOLE THING out. put NEW bearings/head gaskets/update your rods and pistons from a series 3 motor/ etc. etc. (i believe that's possible)

ORRRR you could fix the head gasket. CHANGE THE OIL and put the best damn oil your money can buy. and baby the car for the rest of its engines life. Our motors are not..lets just say..ARE NOT great at withstanding the tests of time without maintenence. Im not knocking you. but...wow. i hope nothing bad happend when you ran it. cause knocking. either means. NO lube. or somethings loose.

                          good luck man.

He said there wasn't coolant in the oil...

and if you have a spun bearing the noise probably won't
                            go away.

Before I started it I checked all my fluids, and they were fine. I think I stated this before but if not ill say it again. It knocked a couple times upon start up, but it quickly went away and idled fine. I only run royal purple in it and I only use k&n oil filters.
