Ok a friend of mine is about to start parting out a 1990 corvette engine. He promised the engine and all needed parts for free to compensate me for doing most of the work and selling all the stuff. Now I'm curious aside from posably having clearance issues with the distributor is there any other problems you guys can see arising.

here is what i can see causing issues:
    1. distributor location.
    2. fuel pump strength.
    3. fuel return line.
    4. tach and spedo calabration.
    5. K member.
    6. swaping from A4-M6(the T56 for a vette is the same as for a F-body right?)
    7. hood clearance for intake.
    8. radiator from v8 ( is there a difference in the LT1-LS1 radiator and will they both fit a 94 bird)

If someone knows where i can find a ignition system setup like the 3.4L with 4 coils that can fix the ignition issue. For the spedo I guess one of those spedo adjuster boards or play with the slew of resistors I have. The front suspension will need to be altered with the added weight ( k member, shocks springs, sway-bar). And If the engine sits to high a WS6 hood for the 93-97 LT1 birds. If anyone can find some other complications or has any other suggestions including for the rebuild of the engine I'm up for just about anything to make this easier. :burn:

    1. you will need to cut the cowl panel to fit the distrib
    2. i would imagine that a new fuel pump would be required
    3. not sure
    4. you can buy a tuner to change the speedo, the tach, im not too sure, when people do LS swaps they change out the gauge cluster, if the wiring is the same, then a fbody cluster should work.. but that is tricky, you will have to get wiring diagrams for both cars to see what will/wont work
    5. BMR makes k members for doing swaps like this
    6. this im not sure about, i know in the f bodies they moved the shifter location on the trans to be tilted to fit the center console,i would take a look at the transmission if possible and try to compare them to the 4th gen f body t56's
    7. i looked at a few pictures of the intake, and it may fit.. i have seen people put low intakes and carbs in f bodies with a special air filter and it fit under the hood
    8. ?? not sure

as for your question, i dont think going to a DIS would work.. im assuming that this is basically a normal small block chevy, which means the distrib also drives the oil pump, and oyu would have to find some way to mount a crank position sensor to let the system know when to spark.. it seems way too troublesome when you could just cut a small hole in the cowl

you can check out ls1tech, they have a sbc/bbc section where many people have swapped these engines to, im sure they would be of great help to you

wow that is a *** ton of work for a dated engine that only has about 20 more hp than a 3.8

      Abbott long tubes,homemade true duals,slp ram air,whisper lid,eibach springs,kyb shocks,BMR subframe connectors, BMR LCA reloc brackets,BMR LCAs. T-top/manual converted

meatyshels: i know but its a free upgrade and the Tq is just under double that of a 3.8

cam98aro: thanks for the incite with the transmission I'm more looking at is there going to be an issue putting a f-body t-56 on an engine from a vette.

also if anyone I wondering I'm going to use this opportunity to learn how to fully rebuild an engine before it goes into my car so i can get a good bit of life out of it.

they make adapters so you can use a f body t56 on a SBC, which im assuming should have the same bellhousing bolt pattern

you need to rethink your strategy if you think its a free upgrade

              Re: corvette L98

... i know the upgrade isnt free and yes i spent a while working the numbers and its looking like its going to be cheaper to get a used LT1+ T56 from TA creations than a t-56 alone and all the needed parts for this engine. so this idea was a flop I'm just looking into possibilities to work with what i have.

why dont you take the engine anyways and rebuild it.. you said you wanted to learn how, and its free, why not

if you want to upgrade sell the vette motor and put a turbo on your 3.8. And im not sure the vette motor has just under double the torque of a 3.8.

                    Re: corvette L98

Most TPI engines produced in the realm of 250 Hp and around 300 ft/lbs of torque in the Vette models....

If your looking into modding at all...bring a thick wallet or nicely padded checkbook as these are expensive as hell to get anything out of them!

                      Re: corvette L98

the 90 and 91 had around 350-375 Tq when talking about the vette version ( 4 bolt main) either way im going to pass this one up and help him sell the whole car before i have to spent months pulling it apart.
