  • upper intake-lower intake-throttle body port.

    Hi, I have two 3800II engines and i figured since one is laying around I'd take it apart and port the intake. Is there any who has experience with a ported engine. (upper intake lower intake and throttle body) If you do, please tell me if you noticed anything HUGE like mpg,torque,hp increases. Im pretty serious about doing everything myself, and i just dont wanna waste my time with something thats not going to make a huge difference.

    not a huge difference when your heads are still going to be a restriction. Reworking them correctly will help but again not a huge difference as our intakes just suck in design. Gasket match the intakes and leave the tb alone as it is massive already. Then call it a day

      thanks, as far as porting EVERYTHING except the throttle body. That should THEN make a big difference correct.? Could i in fact port the heads upper and lower intake, then apply a tune and be satisfied with the power gain? (i have a cold air intake, thats all thats been done.)

        depends on what kind of power you are going to be satisfied with. If you are doing all that work you minds add a cam to the mix to gain more from the port work.

        Porting heads and intake are going to give you a decent bump in power. But everyone has different opinions as to what a BIG difference is.

        You will need exhaust work too to see better gains from the engine work. Your making it breath better, but then clogging up the exhaust, so get that taken care of first

          It has full exhaust from the manies back. idk. Im mainly looking for around 50 hp increase. will Everything ported, a cam, a tune and headers get me around 250 flywheel hp?

                save your time, I got a pair of P/P upper and lower intakes for sale. Done by a machine shop, bought them off a member on here, but never used them. $250 and they're yours

                  you know there are guys with bolt ons and a cam only getting anywhere from 230-250 RWHP...so porting the heads and intake manifold correctly will give better gains when paired up with a cam...

                      There will be little gain in porting the intake manifolds and the TB but not the heads.

                      However, if you port the heads, change the cam, go to headers and then port or Extrude-Hone the intake manifolds, 250-hp is a mear certainty.

                      I did, basically, all that, plus rockers, to my Camaro (see http://www.camarohomepage.com/project/index.htm for details) and saw about 275-hp.

                        May i ask what EXTRUDE_HONE is?
                        I'm Fully aware of what porting and polishing is, but am still new at everything in depth.

                        SO, on top of that. If i do. HEADERS,cold air intake,heads,exhaust,tune,and Upper and lower intake. Could i get possibly 280?

                        I found a guy who will build me a 4l60e to handle 600 hp for 600bucks. would this as well as a aluminum drive shaft be sufficient?

                        I also want to put Solid motor mounts in.

                          id get a chip or tune too, is that tranny build legit? seems a bit underpriced for that durable of a transmission

                            well. the guy who builds them, He's been doing them for about fourty years. and is a wiz. He knows and has connections for parts and is Currently not employed so in turn...He can build them for just about anything. So i said..."ok....What if i give you 600 cash and a tranny, What can you do? He said. Buddy, for 600 bucks ill build you a tranny that'll handle 600hp." He aparently knows the insides and outs of american trannys. He told me stuff about them that id never heard of. parts I'd never heard of.

                            BTw, he said that he can have it done in 8 hours :drool:
