  • Info on Yella Terra 1.7 RR's

Just a thread to inform everybody in the market about these rockers. Here's a few things I've learned while performing the install on these rockers. I figured I'd post this up as the company informing the customer seems to be very lacking.

I bought the Yella Terra Platinum adjustable roller rockers: Model #YT 6333

First off, the only thing they tell you about on the website is this:

There's alot more to it than just this.

Second, even with 0.020" milled heads, .045" Head gasket and running the S1X NA cam which should be close to a stock base circle, I need longer pushrods. How much? How about 7.430" or about .38" longer than stock. I expected to run properly sized pushrods anyway, but I figured I'd inform the public for those looking into something like this in the future.

Third, valve cover clearance. Yella Terra offered valve cover spacers a few years ago for these rockers but no longer offer them. Height is not just the thing to consider, these rockers are big honking pieces of kit. The stock rockers have an angle at the top of the head. The YT6333's have a flat head as they have an adjuster nut at the top. See pic:

With this taken into consideration, the stock tapered valve covers will not cut it even when using another valve cover flange as a spacer. I picked up scratch marks on my freshly sandblasted valvecovers right on the edge of the adjuster nuts and this hits right dead center of that tapered area. Tease has these rockers installed on her car and has a set of fabricated valve covers to allow for the clearance. Something many people don't want to do or are willing to spend the cash on it.

So with this you might need to look into wider valve covers that go all the way to the perimeter of the flange instead of inside the flange area and maybe with less of an angled taper. I am looking into this right now and will report my findings in this thread.

The non adjustable Yella Terras come with longer push rods and have no clearance issues with the stock valve covers even when using the 1.9 ratio's.

Yeah, I bought these 1.7 yella terras

            http://intense-racing.com/Merchant2/...egory_Code=HCV

Installed and runs with no problems.

Also I checked to see if their website is as ****ty as you say it is.

Straight from their roller rockers faq page.
            http://www.yellaterra.com.au/support...#Rollerrockers

            "Will standard rockers covers fit?

The majority of stud mounted and bolt-on EF rockers will fit under the standard covers, but some bolt-on adjustables and the wide body adjustables may require taller covers. Often using two rocker cover gaskets glued together and longer bolts is a quick and easy fix."

No offense but it's clearly a case of bad research.

As I've stated, I'm using a rocker cover flange as a SPACER. Maybe I should post pictures as well. They will not fit with just two gaskets sandwiched in there and they will not fit with the spacer either.

Here's a pic of the valve cover flange I used as a spacer:

I did research it, but what they said is more a definite maybe, not a specific statement on their part. In their comments for the rockers there was nothing else explained except for tapping the heads.

How are they to know specifically what each car has when they're rockers work for so many different engines?

It's not their fault what so ever.

What do the Aussie Valve covers look like? Maybe the US covers and shorter.

I'm curious why you got the adjustables, when the ones that are sold by intense and ZZperformance are a direct fit with no cleance issues?

Re: Info on Yella Terra 1.7 RR's

Aussie Valve covers are same height as ours.

I got the YT's for a good price through Scoggin Parts Center. There's a guy there that's big into V6's and we figured we'd test them out. Didn't know what we were getting into plain and simple as there's really not much if any documentation on anybody running them. My stock rockers were trash as well I really didn't trust them for the job after a rebuild. We also thought they were going to come with pushrods, but we learned otherwise. These are also shaft mount rockers, a bit of a difference compared to your stud mount. This is probably another reason why they are adjustable to provide the proper lash as you have to adjust both rockers.

Guys I'm not upset, I'm just posting this to educate those that are looking at options for rockers and letting them know about this specific setup.

And Blizzard, how would they not know? If they ran them on a V6 then they should know about any clearance issues and anything else involved in the development.

That statement is almost on par with a company selling a clutch for an LSx F-body and then marketing it for the V6 F-body as well without seeing if it would even work first.

I thought on Intense's page their suppose to come with pushrods correct? I agree that they could of told you about the covers/spacers and pushrods, they didn't probably because they wanted to sell them quick. What D!cks.
