My bros 3800 v6 camaro started knocking couple weeks back. It got real bad and the car wouldnt even stay running without giving it gas. Weve pulled the motor and got the pan off and dont see any damage yet. Havent put it on a stand yet to really look at it. If the damage isnt to bad would it be cheaper to rebuild the motor or get another one.

Re: Rebuild or junk it
depends on if the other one is a junkyard motor or a remanufactured one. Cheaper to pick up a junkyard motor, but you don't always know what you are getting with a junkyard motor.

Re: Rebuild or junk it
^what he said. if you can get a junkyard engine with a warranty then that would be the best bet. although you can rebuild and have a fresh new engine. look at the different costs, weigh the options and make a sound decision.Team NoVa

Re: Rebuild or junk it
X3 , doing a rebuild will cost more, but if your keeping it for along time it might be worth it with forged pistons , clev.77 bearings , cam , etc. A engine on ebay like a newer L26 will work so you can get a 08' block and heads and swap over the other stuff from the L36, they go for $500-$600. Then you could go with the least expensive a used L36 with higher miles for around $300-$400. So its just what you want to put into it.08' L76 6.0L 4X4 Chevy EXT.Cab LTZ Vortec MAX with Snug top cover, Dynomax exhaust,Hptuners& K&N intake

Re: Rebuild or junk it
So was this spun bearing the result of low oil pressure? If it is, you better make sure there isn't other damage that you can't see yet. That spun bearing may have just been the first part that was damaged enough to fail. There could be other parts with damage, but that still worked at that time... or were failing, but were masked by the knocking of this spun bearing.2002 Silver Firebird A4
T-Tops, Leather, Y87, W68, Chrome Wheels
Bone Stock
