  • N/A build, suggestions?

    So I'm yanking my 3.8 apart again and here are the parts i've come up with for the rebuild.

    Comp Cams OE-R Hydraulic Lifters
    INTENSE 3800 High Performance Pushrods
    INTENSE N/A 3800 Cam Stage 1
    JPP Single Chain Timing Set
    INTENSE Cam Installation Kit L36
    Cometic MLS Head Gaskets
    ARP GM Series II/II 3800 Head Stud Kit
    Clevite 77 main/rod/cam bearings
    Yella terra roller rocker arms
    LS6 medium load valve springs
    Manley stainless steel valves
    Manley retainers
    viton valve seals
    diamond racing pistons
    and l32 connecting rods.


    Does anyone have any suggestions from exp. for better options? Looking at right around 3,000

    few things:

    1. Go with Comp Cams OE lifters instead of the OE-Rs unless you like noise
    2. why the small cam? What kind of power are you after? Track times? Auto or manual?
    3. Make sure the intense cam install kit is for the fbody cars. I know in the past it was the wbody kits that they sold. Maybe they changed now to offer an fbody one. The gaskets for the fbody are different than a wbody
    4. what thickness head gasket are you looking at? Are you going to use FI or nitrous down the road?
    5. Yella terra rocker arms, what ratio? Hopefully stock ratio or you may have lift issues. Also recently heard from a few members that valve cover clearance with the yella terras is an issue. Might be a different yella terra rocker than what you are going with though. I would stick to stock rocker arms otherwise.
    6. pistons and rods, if staying NA then just stick with the stock pistons and rods. They are going to be able to handle any NA power you through at them. Depending on the kind of diamond pistons you get, you can get some piston slap from them.
    7. Are you leaving the heads alone and stock? Or machining them

    But anyways, some of the stuff I listed depends on your goals and future plans with the engine and if you are staying only NA or if it will see nitrous and/or FI.

      Well the plans have changed a bit, I just picked up some side work that will pay for the build, a larger cam and heads. I think i may just rebuild it with stock parts and just pick up an ls1 car. The original plan was to run a turbo setup on it
