    Re: Running only 5 cylinders...

I had a bad injector that was throwing a PO300 for a year but wouldn't give me the injector # found it when the engine was rebuilt , the mechanic put in the #1 cyl by accident, so the car wouldn't start, it ohm'd test fine and everything but was bad. I replaced the same things coils ,plugs, wires, and sensors. Pissed me off.LOL

You can also get one of those laser thermometers and point it at each exhaust runner to see which one is markedly cooler. There's your misfire. Your mechanic is as dumb as a stump, he should never be throwing parts at it and charging you for his incompetence.

Once you find the misfiring cylinder, check for spark and fuel. One is missing if it's totally dead.

Took car to Advanced Auto Parts. Hooked up to computer, got code P0201 "Fuel injector circuit open" on cylinder 1.

Poured some fuel injector cleaner in there and has helped still have problem but to lesser extent.

Anyone know how to fix that?

Unfortuanately, as you probably already know, your first mechanic was unsure as to the problem, so he just "threw" parts at it and, for the most part, wasted your 600 bucks.

If the code is P0201 and it resets after being cleared, the cause is likely either the wiring associated with the injector for #1, the injector itself or the ECM.

My suggestion, if you want to try to fix this by DIY, is to get the factory service manual, a code reader and maybe a DMM then follow the diagnostic and repair instructions for that DTC.

Note that a pour-in, fuel injector cleaner will not solve this problem as it's electrical in nature not a problem with a fouled or plugged injector.

Lastly, I'd avoid driving the vehicle when it's running on only five cylinders because raw fuel through the catalytic converter causes extreme high temperatures which will damage the cat and can, in extreme cases, set the vehicle on fire.

If the car is a '93 or a '94, you usually can clear codes by disconnecting the battery for five minutes. If it's a '95 or later, you'll need a code reader which has the ability to clear codes or you'll need a scan tester.

You can get a factory serivice manual from Helm Inc.

A "DMM" is a digital multimeter. They are available from a variety of sources. Make sure you get one that has impedance of at least 10meg-ohm. I use the AutoMeter DM-45 in my shop and I like it alot. See http://test.autometer.com/product.aspx?ID=4 for more info. The Actron CP7677 is a good one if you are really on a tight budget. See: www.actron.com for more info.

I don't know where you could rent a scan tester as I'm unfamiliar with who rents what in your neighborhood.
