has any one tried out either one of the pistons yet? and maybe a dumb question but you think they woulde be a upgrade at all cause it doesnt say they are lighter or stronger really. thx http://www.summitracing.com/parts/STL-WH522CP/

      Re: different pistons

I would say that neither of those would be an upgrade. If you're looking for added strength, forged pistons and rods would be the way to go. But unless you're looking to add a turbo, supercharger, or a good bit of nitrous, I would say use the money for something else.

you could upgrade by using the pistons to up the compression for a NA car...I dunno about those ones in the link though...

        1996 3800 Camaro - 13.43 @ 100.77 mph

unless you have major plans for the car i wouldnt bother changing the pistons, the stock pistons in our car can hold some good power

            Re: different pistons

The stock pistons in the 3800II are already Hypereutectic, So these really are not an upgrade. If you want stronger pistons go with forged.

you dont need to necessarily change out pistons to hold more power...you can change them out so that you can run more compression. To run anything higher then 9:9:1, or 10:1 you need to swap the pistons out to achieve it.

Good point, Thats why I went with Diamond forged pistons in 9:5.1 compression 7 years ago with L32 rods, with my heads I'm about 9:8.1 compression right now and my newer heads will put me at almost 10:1 , and still plan on running some low boost 10-12LBS. Those forged pistons with the Total Seal rings haven't let me down yet and it has been abused with some power over the years.

                    Re: different pistons

personally im running 8.5 : 1 gtp pistons, but i also plan on 25lbs of boost. it all depends heavily on your future mods for your car
Just a v6 with a few mods, no big plans :bs:

                      Re: different pistons

the second link says 96.500mm bore are engines are 96.520mm stock so im nnot sure if it will seal? then again its 2 tenths of a millameter. Looks like is has a higher compression it has 1.090" compression distance and a .050" recess the other one is 1.855" comp dis and a .135" recess. I dont know how to figure what that makes the compression tho
