Im gunna drop the transmission tommorrow to get to the rear main seal. How do I drop it down, or how can I drop it down? I got an atv jack I was thinking of jacking up and droping the tranny down on that and wheeling it off?

Does the transmission pan need to come off? If so do I need to empty the fluids? How do I drain the trans, and what is the proper procedure for refilling it?

No need to drop the pan or empty the fluids.
Leave the driveshaft in the back of the trans unless you
    want fluid everywhere.

ok thats what I want to hear...now what would be the best thing to get a jack on as far as the transmission goes? It looks like that pan blocks everthing that I can use to support it?

I have a trans jack and I put it right on the pan. What does the
atv jack you have look like?

looks like two thin striped maybe 2 inches wide and 12 inches long that are spaced maybe 6- 8 inches apart...if I put a piece of wood across the pan would I be ok?

            Yeah.
You'd probably be fine without it though using the
            atv jack.

whats worst case scenario if I crush that pan? It kinda felt a little weak when I pushed on it with my hand? what would I need to disconnect?

Just use a piece of wood if you're worried about it.

so should I be dropping it straight down? Anything I should watch out for?

                    Re: Pulling the transmission

                    Remove starter
                    Unbolt torque converter
                    Unbolt driveshaft from rearend
                    Unbolt torque arm
Remove trans lines (the e clips are annoying the first time)
Unplug a couple of electrical connectors
                    Remove shifter linkage/cable
                    Support trans
                    Unbolt the trans crossmember
Remove bellhousing bolts (you'll need alot of extensions for the top
bolts. If you let the trans sag it'll make getting to them easier)
Slide trans back off the bottom studs

I think thats the major stuff. It's not too hard to do.

The trans lines are also easier to get to after you unbolt
the crossmember and let the trans sag.

You will find that when you get it done, it was easy.

i took mine out twice without removing the starter, but mine isnt an auto so im not sure if that makes a difference

either way the starter isnt hard to take off

                            Re: Pulling the transmission

You have to pull the starter to get to the torque
                            converter bolts.

am I going to have an issue lining this back up after? Also, time wise how long does it take an inexperienced person to do this roughly?
