Fixing to be changing my rear main seal and oil pan gasket this weekend. My friend told me Ii should pick up a oil pickup tube/screen and the oil pump rebuild kit so while I have the oil pan off I could replace those.

This is the oil pump rebuild kit?:

    This is the screen:

Should I put these on my list to do also?

    Re: Parts

Your links don't go to the parts, just a general search.

You'll have to pull the front cover to get to the oil pump.

But would you guys change them or do you think they are a waste of time to do.

        How many miles?
I'd go ahead and change the pick-up tube while the
pan is off because it's easy. It's not really necessary
        unless it's gunked up though.

          Re: Parts

I just rolled over to 166,000. I am putting around 2-3k a month. So to change those gears i have to pull the front cover off? You can't get to them from the oil pan?

No, you have to pull the front cover. The oil pump is driven by
the crankshaft and is bolted to the front cover.

              Re: Parts

ok. Good. Less money I have to spend. I think I may go ahead and replace the pickup tube with the screen since I am there and it may have crud in it or sludge. Maybe I will be lucky and it will be clean.

                Re: Parts

I would replace the pickup tube and screen, just had mine done when the pan was off, good piece of mind and not too expensive. When you get the new oil pan gasket I would suggest to cut away part of it where the pickup goes in, you'll see when you pull the old one off. Meatyshells had to unbolt the pickup tube to get the pan off, and it was a tight spot, but after dremeling the new one it went in pretty easy. So if it needs to be pulled off for some reason it will drop just about straight down. The plastic is just a slash guard setup so cutting alittle won't hurt.
