I am having trouble making up my mind on which cam I want to go with. My 96 Camaro is staying NA. It currently has a 97pcm, 4.10 gearing and a 5spd. I am stuck between 3 different cams. The Abbott cam is if the requirements for the other two get to expensive. Parts that I have that are going in during the swap include Pacesetter Coated headers and CAI.

    Abbott ARH Naturally Aspirated cam
    -210º/220º @ .050"
    .512"/.515" lift
    LSA 112º

    Intense
    Stage 3
    -222º/230º @ .050"
    542"/.529" lift
    LSA 110º
    intake centerline: 106º

    GT3

    224º/224º at .050"
    .536"/.536" lift
    LSA 113

I know the bottom two choices it is recommended to shift around 7k. What is needed to be able to do that? I know new springs are a must and most likely pushrods as well. Also I have stock L36 heads right now. Also anyone with any experience with these cams chime in with some testimonials? Thanks.

edit: I kept my stock rockers in case I wanted to cam the car later. I know the 1.8s must come out.

Your going to run into a lot of money building around either of the last 2. I know zzp recommends added displacment and major head work for the gt3. You will need at least 130# springs, a doubler roller, and hardened custom length pushrods to go along with the head work too.

If i were you i would look at either the GT2 or the ARH N/A cam. I use to run the gt2 and currently run the abbott cam. You cant go wrong with either really. With the abbott i run 105# springs, modded retainers, and the pushrods the recommend.

*also noticed you had 1.8 rockers, make sure those are removed. would be way to much lift on top of any of those cams.

Yes, I kept my stock rockers in case I wanted to go with a cam install.

To run that much lift you will need to have the guides cut down at the very least. Also as previously stated the GT3 was designed for added displacment. A lot of supporting mods are needed for the bottem two cams, i.e. a converter, valve springs, retainers and so on. Also all those lift numbers are with a 1.6 rocker ratio, are cars actually have a 1.66 according to tyhe GM shop manuals. someone correct me if i'm wrong.

            Re: Cam Decision

Since I have 4.10 gears I was looking for a good top end power cam.

Would it me an advantage for me to go Abbott custom grind to squeeze out some more hp without having to do major work that the other two cams require?

I was planning on running the LS6 springs with Abbott and get a new timing chain and dampener.

              Re: Cam Decision

you could have them spec you one for your specific setup, however i dont think much more would be gained over the N/A cam. I would really concider 105# springs over the 90's. you could see some valve float in high rpms if you try and rev it out (which the cam is capiable of)

Alright, I will look into those when the time for purchase comes. Thanks for the input.
