  • 3800 intake manifolds..help?

    hey, i've got a 1996 camaro, 3800 series II engine(L36), turbocharged.
my setup is pretty good for the moment, but air flow is a little restricted..
theres not much info on the intake manifolds, but does anyone know which setup flows the best? or anything i could do besides port & polish what ive got (that aluminum "brick" style upper manifold.

oh, its also got a better MAF sensor, LS1 throttle body, INTENSE Racing's stage 1 turbo cams, & 105# valve springs..

    thanks for the help!

you can look into the holden intake manifold, its the australian version of chevy, and it flows much better then ours does...also, there lower intake manifold makes it much easier for you to custom design an upper piece to better suit your needs, if there setup does not appeal to you.

how about the "port tuned" upper intake manifold? does that flow better..or am I left with fabricating one.

where did you find a "port tuned" manifold at? Only intake manifolds available for our cars are ported stockers or switching to the holden intakes like I did. Some grandprix guys have aftermarket setups but the inlet faces the wrong direction which means the lower intake would need to be reworked to fit our cars.

idk i was talking about that plastic upper intake (kinda looks like the LS1's).
i saw a fiero 3800 where he fabricated the upper half & TIG welded that to the lower half..maybe I'll try that. I'm a little ify on the Holden setup.

if I remember correctly, the plastic intake is too big to fit in our cars without some extensive modification...it sits alot taller then our manifolds because it is meant for the fwd cars....I think you need to lower the K member down, and cut away parts of the cowl...someone on another forum was trying to make one fit, but I don't know that he ever got it to fit....hell, Im not even sure that that manifold flows much better then ours...its the same crappy design.

You might be better off measuring how much room you have with our manifolds, and making a spacer for our intake manifolds to allow for more air and increase the size of the intake runners.

why are you ify about the holden setup?

so instead of going with a holden intake setup that is almost a bolt on for our cars other than a few minor things and dropping the kmember down lower you would rather go with a grand prix plastic intake that is no where near a bolt on and needs a ton of fabbing and cutting to make work? The grand prix plastic intake does flow better than our stockers but fitment is a major issue. The holden needs no welding to work with our cars. Unsure with what you are after I guess

I would just run the stock or the Holden unless you plan on making a whole new setup from scratch. The stock and Holden have proven themselves pretty well when ported/polished or stock form. Guys/girls running low and high 11's FI and nitrous and guys running N/A in the 12's. Just have to find the right combo that works.
