    Re: heads and stuff

car should be going under this monday/tuesday coming up.

I got all the stuff for the heads (reusing my springs, retainers etc.)
    -head gaskets
    -coolant elbows
    -copper header gaskets
    -copper spray
    -reusuable rocker arm bolts
    -7.00" pushrods
    -all new fluids
    - UIM/LIM intake gaskets

am I missing anything....and the RTV that you get for the LIM gaskets...I forget that type of RTV I need? everything seems to be heat rated, what kind of temps is that LIM seeing?

So the 7.05 push rods ended up not working?

What are planning to do with those?

not 100% sure yet, I will know when I put the heads on...I bought the 7.00" just in case...can't afford the down time on the car, it takes zzp 1.5-2 weeks to get me items so...chances are I will be using the 7.00" though, even if it means milling the heads down a little more then what they are right now.

90% chance I am using the 7.00" so the 7.05's will be up for sale.

Standard black RTV is what comes in the gasket kit. Dont forget the TB, valve cover and timing cover gaskets. You may want to replace the rear main cover gasket too if you see any signs of leaking. Is the timing chain and tensioner still fresh? Are you planning on removing the balance shaft?

I don't need to take off the front cover do I? I know I had to for the cam, I didnt think I had to for the heads though?

TB I leave attached as one piece, and I have valve cover gaskets as well...timing cover is part of the front cover, which I am hoping I do not have to remove?

I did a new chain and tensioner when I did the cam last year...

Your right. You wont need to pull the front cover. I thought you were removing the cam for some reason.

ok, dont scare me...that cover is a b*tch...its the sole reason the cam took 4 days...6 hours to get the damn crank bolt off, plus cause of the rust proofing on the car it was like trying to find a needle in a hay stack to find the front cover bolts on the bottom of the engine there.

I bought copper gasket maker today for the RTV...its good to 700F is that ok?

Ive never heard of the copper RTV. I looked it up, and it looks like it supercedes all of the other gasketmakers. The red stuff is only good for 650*.

                      Re: heads and stuff

I'm interested to see how yours runs, I just ordered some Manely 1.90 and 1.57 Servere Duty II exhaust valves , the owner of intense called me and left a message saying they will be in .313 size instead of .310 so thats good. Also I will have the exhaust shop mill the guides for a .600" lift just so I don't run into any problems with my 1.7 Promags with my cam. First I will do the double roller and oil PSI mod since I will be running Comp 130LB springs and oil PSI mod is for the turbo.

                        Re: heads and stuff

those are the exact valves that I am running in the car...same size to.

Forced firebird on the other forum was saying that the exhaust side is too big, and that you want to flow atleast 60% more intake...I tried asking why or what the side effects of running this size would be, but I never got a reply...

Valves came with the set of heads, so I can't really change that anyways, but might be able to tune around it if its an issue...

                          Re: heads and stuff

I'll be running my turbo so I want more flow, Intense uses them in there CNC heads so they should hold up pretty well. They are turbo valves for extreme heat. So in your being N/A they'll last along time. I know I have ported my heads pretty well and will have the machine shop make sure they are all the same when they do the valve job and valve guides.

well I just got off the phone with my local shop here...guy has been working on them for the last week or so (I told him to take his time as long as I have them by the long weekend) He's super excited about these...he's 100% convinced I'll be turning some great numbers with these...so we'll just have to wait and see... I pick them up tommorrow!

And I wanted to get a good set of valves...gives me tons of room to expand in the future.

On a side note, I've been working on and off on the ITB's...I got a couple of the throttle bodies broken down nice and cleanly...I just finished the base plate more or less...the base plate weighs in at just under 1lb, which is good...definetly should mean this entire UIM piece should be under 20lbs all said and done. She's definetly starting to shape up...gunna do a dry fit when I do the heads to make sure there is no clearance issues...otherwise its back to the drawing board...again....

LETZRIDE, do you know if you Manely valves are .310 valves? Because John the new owner emailed me saying Manely is using a new Blank that will be the stock size .3136 for the intake and the exhaust valves for the Servere Duty II series which I should recieve in about 2-3 weeks , so I will just have the valve job, Bronze valve guides installed and milled down for a .600 lift. Makes it a little more simple than trying to get the .310 guides.

I believe they are the .313 valves...I got everything on a set of heads off of FTV6, the guy already made new valve guide and everything for the heads, so it all fits together for me already, the guides just needed to be cut down. He said the valves were ordered directly from intenses website for the 3800 series, and they say they give you a .313 valve, so mine should be this...

I picked up the heads by the way....

                                I can't believe the work...looks soo good...pictures don't even do them justice, but I'll post some anyways :D ....
