Hey everyone, I've replaced all my gaskets from the heads up 3 times since my car has been down, and I'm still leaking oil/water upon start up at the front of the motor. I asked a local mechanic and he said it was most likely the 2 rubber gaskets between the block and the lim. He said the oil will push past that gasket 8 times out of 10, and just to use a 3/8 bead of rtv on it. Has anyone else had this problem?

Your suppose to use the RTV and then put down the rubber gaskets, I use alot of RTV then put the lower on and tighten down and let set for 24 hours to dry. Then do the upper and the rest.

I don't use the gaskets at all, just a bead of silicone. A lot of newer engines just use silicone there.

^ I know on my old 2000 Grand am when I did the lim I didn't use rubber gaskets at the ends. But I made sure there was a good amount of the good GM sealant , comes in a tube and is gray in color. That stuff is like cement.LOL But if your using the new alm. LIM gasket kit , might as well use the rubber seals just use sealant around them and esp. in the corners. I'll be doing mine here soon again when I put on my built heads and P/P intakes and swap my OER lifters out and put in Comp OE lifters, along with some other, goodies.:naughty:

The gasket kit came with an illustration of those 2 rubber gaskets and it said not to use the permatex under the gasket just on the corners where they meet the gaskets that go on the heads. I did it like this the first 2 times, then I gooped the hell out of it under the gasket and on the corners the 3rd time, and still leaking.

Maybe you have structural damage your LIM. Take a look around all the edges and look for damage or something out of the ordinary, like a dent, chip or warped area.

              Re: intake gaskets

I'm completely stumped!!! Pulled my intakes off today and there was no sign of blow by on the rubber end gaskets. Plus I broke off a corner of my upper intake. Don't ask me how. I just have bad luck I guess. So should I mabey get a compression tester and see if I have a problem with my bottom end? When I started it up last time oil was running down onto my harmonic ballancer and dripping off it. But I don't know where its coming from.

Take a pic and post it up so we can get a better idea of whats
                  going on.

                  Is oil and coolant leaking?

                      Re: intake gaskets

I would check the heads to make sure there not leaking, or use dye in the oil to find out where the leak is, I've used dye for oil, A/C, tranny , rear diff and power steering leaks. Best way to find them so you know exactly where the leaks are.

                        Re: intake gaskets

did any body find out what caused this problem????
i had this problem also i had replaced the engine and had to replaced intake i also replaced all the gaskets except head gaskets
and it leaked oil at the harmonic when i ran the car after it heated fully
i replaced the timing seal twice and put on a seal kit also I pulled and checked the oil pump but still leaked when fully warm
also oil pressure dropped when it leaked and dropped when you let off the gas at road speeds i believe the cats were plugged and creating back pressure I have new cats just not interested in repairing I also had water in the oil which i have repaired this problem but have not put on new cats yet The person before me ran the engine a long time with check engine light on which could plug cats
anyways just wondered if any body else had this problem??? thanks

                          Re: intake gaskets

I havnt figured it out yet, I'm gonna replace the gaskets at the front of the motor and if that dosnt fix it, I'm gonna give up on this motor. I've found a couple l26s for pretty cheap.
