So I was looking around at heads and abbott racing uses the Si valves on there stage 3 heads. Do they use the competition ones or are they using the race version because he uses 130lb springs on them. Didn't people say thats bad?

    Re: Si Valves

I just talked to him and he says the competition and race version valves are the same. He also says he hasn't experienced any problems with them.

      Re: Si Valves

I've heard about a number of guys breaking them, that's why I opted to stay away...you break/drop a valve you're looking at a rebuild.

Yea I was looking through some threads and seen where a few guys broke some. I might as well just stick with stock ones.

I'll have Si valves in mine. Its all a bunch of bs. Si has never had anything come back when asked for..

I believe Meatyshells had a valve fail and have heard of others. I may just skip them since I don't want a unnecessary full rebuild.

              Re: Si Valves

Manely is now using new blanks that will be our stock size so theres no swapping out guides since they use to be .310 and now their making them in stock size for intake and exhuast .3136 , and these are their Servere Duty II valves , I should be getting the first batch from Intense in a couple of weeks. I still have some SI stock size valves for sale, I didn't use them becuase ZZP , Zoomer didn't recommend them with a turbo and 130 LB springs and being in extreme AZ heat. Also SI just gave me the same info that was on ZZP's site, if my MSN email wouldn't have been cancelled before I could of copied my emails over I could post what they had said, although I just talked to a tech from SI. I know Meatyshells running abbotts cam with 105LB springs and SI valves 1.55/ 1.89 sizes I think they are, had one break which ruined his engine and cam, so he is just running a stock 03' Buick 3.8 motor now. With all the money I have into mine , I'm not taking any chances, I'm glad Intense got Manely to do the valves in stock size, should sell a bunch of them. ZZP even stopped using SI valves in their heads , they have their LS1 Blanks and a turbo intake valve but you need to run a spacer or stock retainers for the correct install height.

                Re: Si Valves

Also on ZZP's CNC'd heads they use the stock valves and say they are good for low boost , if the SI were better I would think they woud use those on the heads , just my view point. I haven't heard of any of Manely's valves breaking from Intense , so thats why I was going to go with them an ordered the .310 valves but the next day the emailed me and said their new .3136 valves will be coming in. NICE, LOL

                  Re: Si Valves

Why I haven't heard of their valves breaking i have heard of there valve springs breaking. I will probably just use stock valves since i can't afford the manleys.

                    Re: Si Valves

I believe the manley's flow better as well...but I could be wrong. SI valves would of fit nice with my budget...they were pretty much the reason I held off on buying heads/hardware for a very long time...is I just didnt know if I could trust them...Now, there are several people running the SI valves that are fine...just look at all the guys running zzp, or abbott heads...

Yea abbott told me this morning that they were really good. I just don't think he would continue putting themn in heads if he had alot of failures. But then again how many stage 3 heads does he sell?

                        Re: Si Valves

anyone who has ever broke an SI valve that has contacted SI about the breakage as never sent the broken parts back to SI for inspection and possible compensation. They either had too strong of springs or the wrong install height. every time you put a new valve in you need to check to make sure your seats are correct for the valve. it doesn't take many miles of a valve hitting only half a seat with big springs to do damage.

we are going to be putting SI's to the ultimate test this year. 130# springs. bigger cam. healthy amount of boost and nitrous. if anything can break them then this surely should do it if there is indeed a problem with them.

oh and when i contacted SI valves about this said problem i was told exactly what i wrote in the first paragraph. oh and we use the exact same SI valves in our 1300hp cobra with springs that are much much stronger then a 3.8 will ever use.

LOL i did contact them they told me i was to lean and the exhaust valve got to hot. (i had logs to prove i was never to lean, this was on my old motor just running mid-low 12's) well

                          1. the car was idling in my driveway.

                          2. is it was the intake valve that broke off.

I showed them photos, and even offer to send to valves ( all of them in my car) into them for free, I was told I didn't need to do that and They would replace my valves for free.........

so free valves is the compensation you speak of, most performace parts are like this i understand. but the fact They wouldn't even take my valves for inspection at 0 cost to them other then labor for the tech? yeah no thanks that peved me off

I don't care it the ****ing space shuttle uses the valve that was produced in the same batch as mine.

and before you ask my install height was perfect, shimmed and everything to get it that way.

                          So I'm running Manley now

Yea this rules them out. To many horror stories now. Sorry SSMS(aka Steve). I almost sent you the money for those valves but wanted a few more opinions.

Damm Andrew , Looks like the tip just broke off that valve, and to be at idle thats pretty sad, but I guess if their going to go they will go. Would of been alot worse if you were at 20 PSI going down the track. I think thats what happened to Meatyshells car that was N/A the tip broke off. I would rather be safe than sorry later on.
Choppers no problem, if you want to buy some new stock valves I will have them out when I get my Manely's.
