If that was the case their wouldn't be a V6 site, theirs guys with properly set up turbos dynoing over 400 WRHP with stock engines, thats 480 HP so I'll stay with my little V6 , I would choose a 9mm over a .45 also , if you can't put someone down in 2 shots , 1 to the body, 1 to the head then run becuase either their not human or you can't shoot worth a damm and you shouldn't be there. LOL hahaha
There are 9mm enthusiast websites just as there are .45 enthusiast websites, but that doesn't mean they are each as capable as the other. Wouldn't you agree? The OP is asking for the cheapest horsepower between options A and B and I'm only suggesting he save up for a V8 vehicle if he is concerned with cost-vs-benefit. Personally that's the same route I'm taking: keeping it stock until I can afford a trans am. I understand my V6 isn't the fastest horse in the stable, and won't be the fastest horse within a reasonable budget. I just don't agree with spending the extra money just to hurt someone's feelings because you beat their V8 with a V6.
(A little off topic, but if I had to guess, most people registered on this website are concerned with keeping their daily driver well maintained, not making 400 rwhp.)
IN THE EVENT OF """racing""" you are trying to prove either to (yourself) or (otherpeople) that your car is FASTER than there car. By beating someone, you feel a sense of accomplishment. Having a v8 Camaro, YOU ASSUME that your going to beat the top 75 percentile of racers out there. Now....when you race. YOU KNOWINGLY put your car out there to take the possibility of losing or wining. Now racing and beating a guy who thinks his BALLS are OO <<huge and gets beat by a V6 camaro. It humbles you and makes you aware that you are NOT the fastest dog around. Some people take is personally and some people shake your hand. it all comes down to who gets there hand the most dirty and who has the most pride in there machine.
Having a v6 Camaro and wining races with it. IS JUST DOWN RIGHT un natural. PEOPLE assume and make fun of you for having a v6 Camaro. PEOPLE assume and make a preconceived notion that your car is just slower.
I lived in Nashville a while back, when everyone went cruising and i was just a new guy at the time. They all told me that i would not be able to keep up. THAT night i blew the doors off a pro-charged 350z and a turboed srt4 and kept up with the front of the pack. WE all got back and i was INSTANTLY accepted because my car surpassed there assumptions and shocked them (i get 31 mpg highway)
that sir is the DIFFERENCE with a v6 over a v8.
Im not trying to rip your head off....but i stand strong with ssms. HE has the correct mind set about our "lil" v6 maro's.
as for the guy wondering what he should do.
If youve got like a 4grand budget or even a three grand budget. GO with the v6. because youll spend that in parts and a STOCK engine to just get it in your car. (a stock v8 runs between 275 hp to 325hp) 3-4 grand into a v6 will surpass that by a long shot.
a nitrous kit that gives you 75-100hp is <$500, so you fail. :p
May be true, but I'd rather have 1K in supporting mods in, then 500 in nitrous that has to be payed for again and again, and I was working with a stock, abused and neglected 150,000+ mile engine. Besides, headers, exhaust, intake and various other little engine mods has made the 3.4 a very nice and fun to drive engine. Sure, I wont win any races but I can rest assured that its not going to give me problems, and I have the satisfaction of making it mine lol.
If he wants HP, go with another engine platform, because it CAN be done, but its very long and drawn out, expensive and if your not careful you'll burn yourself out before you see much of anything. But other then that, its a great little engine!
EDIT: 3800's are a very proven platform, so either SBC/LT/LS or 3800 swap will not only give you a much much more open field to play in, but theres also a market in aftermarket parts. If you like tuning, extreme DIY, and actually truly understanding, hands on, number crunching, enginetheory, go with the 3.8, or if your more interested in speed, parts availability, or things of that nature; opt for the 8 cylinder platform.
thedetailman: I can't really disagree with you since we each have different goals for our cars. I can see where you're coming from if you're into "saturday night cruising"... Me, not so much, since around my area the idea of "cruising" is sitting in the dunkin donuts parking lot chatting for 2 hours and occasionally picking fights with ricers, racing them, and getting hefty tickets because you were stupid enough to drag race on the main strip in a town that always has speed traps on it (seriously, this is all exactly what happened when my friend took me to my first- and last- saturday night "tuner meet". It was really, really retarded. Don't take offense though, because my town is notorious for being an ***-backward hickville in comparison to the rest of Maryland).
So my truck is finally getting some work done, after 17 years, Oil pressure sensor went out and it’s located under the lower intake manifold. Have to...
