  • Engine rebuild - what should I replace

My 99 Camaro 3.8L blew the rear main, lost all the oil and spun a bearing while I was 150 miles from home, so I'm having the motor professionally rebuilt at a local shop, it has 115K miles on it. My question is what external parts should I replace (as a preventatitive measure) even though they seem to be working fine. I'm thinking that I should replace the O2 sensors, knock sensors, water pump, all coolant lines, clutch, power steering pump..... not shure what else. I just don't want to go through all this effort and end up having to replace something that is really hard to get at a month from now.
This is my daily driver and I'm planning on keeping it pretty much stock with the exception of a dual cat back exhaust, I just recently put in a new catalytic converter. Any advice on what typically fails after 100K would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Why wouldn't you just buy a junkyard L26? Cheaper and just as if not more reliable.

I thought about buying a junkyard motor and it would be less $ but the couple that were in my area already had 80K miles on them. The guy who owns the shop I'm bringing the block to is a friend who builds race engines. He is going to cut me a deal on his labor. I trust his work since he is a perfectionist.
As of this writting the long block is on a skid and I'll bring it to his shop at lunch time. I've got a few pictures but they are at home so I'll post them later.
          Thanks

By a small cam do you mean one with a little more lift than stock? Thanks for the advise, the oil pump is going to be replaced and I'll keep the power steering pump since it is currently working OK.

Check the balancer also. Wouldn't hurt.
