Got his 97 firebird about a month ago for cheap ($600). I thought it needed a valve job. It had a very rough idle, and smoked oil really bad. I pulled the engine I found it had slung the #2 rod!
This car ran and I drove it to check the tranny. Never would have guessed it was this bad! The yellow line is hightlighting the crack in the block.
Currently replacing the engine with a NA 06 grand prix engine. Had to wait on another one as the first one from LKQ had water in the oil. They sent another one right out though, and it looks good so far...
Sorry about the damage , but I agree good pics of the destruction.

hahahaha x2 ^
Wait, Is that a V6 or V8? 1990 Chevrolet C-K 1500 series 4.3L .. 5spd
1994 JDM Euno Roadster 1.8L 5spd Bolt Ons.. etc 2000 Camaro 3.8L Auto Bolt Ons..etc
How the hell did that thing even run at all, however rough?
I wondered the same thing. I wish I had taken a video of it or something for proof that it was running, but I never believed it would be that bad.
All I can think is the rod let go at the perfect time and fell down into the oil pan instead of locking the engine down. It actually ran pretty good over 1500 rpms. The idle though would rattle your teeth!
Sorry about the damage , but I agree good pics of the destruction.
Nothing to be sorry for. I bought the car fully aware that I might be replacing the engine. I was hoping for an easier repair, but I was not surprised it was more than I originally thought. I was surprised that it was running with this type/much damage though.
