I was talkin to a guy from Oreiley about me having to do my LIM over again and basically he said im going to have to change the LIM gaskets anyway eventhough Im only redoing the valleys in the black gasket maker since I f'ed it up by putting blue gasket maker in the valleys because its deaf leaking out the back of the LIM. Anyways this thread is about a tool he was telling me about basically what it does is instead of me havin to loosen the rocker arms and do all of that TDC bull **** it basically compresses the spring so that you can remove the pushrods without having to undo the rockers arms! So basically it you'll lift them out and put them back in without having to do any kind of TDC since the Rocker never lossen. He said that the tool was made by a company named Lise or somthing like that and its for a 3.1 & 3.4L Engines Anybody know what im talking about or what its calleld because I'd really hate to try doing that TDC thing again.

Re: LIM Rocker Arms?
I never brought each cylinder to TDC when doing my arms? just torque to 22ft lbs I believe and go...takes 2 minutes to pull of the rockers and swap em back on...

Re: LIM Rocker Arms?
yes, (I believe it is 22ft lbs, double check in the haines book)
Secondly, in order to do the LIM, you do not need to remove the rocker arms...you should not need to touch them at all...see my picture below.
Those bolts are TTY, so if you dont have reusable bolts, you do not want to be undoing them and retorquing them...you are asking for trouble...save yourself a headache and dont even touch them...

Re: LIM Rocker Arms?
you dont need to put the piston at TDC, but i would highly recommend that you torque the rocker when the valve is fully closed.
these cars use hydraulic lifters and torquing them when the valve is open can mess up the zero lash/preload on the lifter since they pump up when oil flows through them

Re: LIM Rocker Arms?
If its Comp reusable rocker arm bolts I believe its 26 ft. lbs I'll look on ZZp's video, and yes no need on a 3,8 to have it TDC just tighten them down. I'm having my engine work done this Fri. with the 1.7 Comp promags and COMP OE lifters, COMP .105 pushrods ,reusable rocker arm bolts etc. Yes it was 26 ft. LBS for the rockers and just make sure you go back and forth on each one. For gasket sealer GM's gray sealant is the best I have ever used , ZZP sells it or pick some up at your local GM parts dept.Last edited by ssms5411; 09-27-2010, 05:43 AM.08' L76 6.0L 4X4 Chevy EXT.Cab LTZ Vortec MAX with Snug top cover, Dynomax exhaust,Hptuners& K&N intake

Re: LIM Rocker Arms?
yeah guys but im doing the 3.4L Engine and with that engine the push rods actually intertwine through the gaskets. So with that being the case undoing the rocker arms is mandatory, but is it possible to still be able to tourqe them back down to 22 or 26ft lbs after I put the pushrods back in and get ready to re tighten the rocker arms on the 3.4

Re: LIM Rocker Arms?
the 3.4 is different. you have to set the valve lash on the rockers a certain way. the reason the rockers have to come off is cause the top part of the gasket goes in front of the pushrod and the bottom part goes behind it, like the pushrods fit into holes. its a pain in the butt.
you cant just torque the rockers down. if you have to remove them then you must follow the procedure to set the lash.
as for the tool, i have never heard of such a thing. just redo the lim gasket this time and make sure the sealant has time to cure, maybe you wont have to do it again.Team NoVa
