well Im thinking even if they are damaged...only 1-2 should be, and so long as the head itself is not damaged...I should be ok...

True but if you get a L26 block the heads are better flowing and you get the L32 rods , and just have them milled and valve job and guides cut for $300-400. What do you think of that NIC cam looks wicked esp. with some 1.7 rockers?, also go with some clev. 77 bearings all around , that whats in mine and it has taken alot of abuse, couple of times I thought it was gone. LOL

I dunno..it looks tamer then the ARH cam I have? It only requires 90# springs?...plus I think it is a blower cam no?

            Re: Blew the motor

going to start tearing the motor down shortly today (change of plans so I can start a little earlier)...Im gunna tear off the top of the motor to see whats wrong, then pull it out the bottom...How can I support the transmission?

all I can find when I search is people asking which way is better to pull the motor...Ive decide to drop it out the bottom, so anyone want to confirm my quick rundown?

Im gunna have the top of the motor off (intake/heads)...then what I unbolt the 6 bolts on the K frame (3 either side) and the 4 upper shock bolts on either side? then undo the transmission mount while somehow supporting the transmission? then should I be able to lift the body up and everything just fall down?

              Re: Blew the motor

11s-12s NA is going to take a really radical not street worthy build. Any off the shelf cam is not going to cut it, it will take a really knarly cam with some crazy lobes to get you running that low NA. Also minds start looking into some race ported aluminum heads, high compression pistons, MLS gaskets, etc. It will take a ton of money to get 11s-12s NA and when you say you are on a tight budget that just doesn't work out for your goals realistically.

Find a 3.8l NA engine, any will work, a newer one would be nice for lower mileage.

                Re: Blew the motor

Mike pull the whole engine and tranny together, its a lot easier to undo your DS and the tranny cross member than to get at the tranny/bellhousing to engine bolts.

Then disassemble the top end when you get the whole K frame eng/trans down.

                  Re: Blew the motor

well I started to dissassemble the motor while its in the car because I have no where to put an entire motor/trans for a few days more atleast...in the mean time I can begin to find the issues.

So far when I emptied the oil it was all glittery...when I tapped the pan I could definetly head chunks moving around.

I'm down to the heads and I've run out of daylight, so maybe I'll go at it a bit tommorrow after class.
so far the rocker arms looked fine, pushrods looked good...I still see the valve stem through the head ports on most of holes, some are too dark to see...so I'm hoping that is promising...

I didnt see any damage under the car...but the oil pan appeared to have oil that blew out the sides from where the top bolts are that bolt it to the engine...oil down the sides of the pan, splattered all over the Y-pipe, but no holes anywhere as far as I can see...

I'm an idiot and decided I would try and start the car this morning...I heard another bang so I quickly flipped the key back lol...but it actually sounded as if she might of fired right up had I of kept the key in place...

                    Re: Blew the motor

Damm becareful , I had a 2.0 Caviler and it seized up and turned over the crank with a breaker bar , it ran for like 10 sec. then blew a baseball size hole throough the block and started on fire, burnt most of the wiring and it was just ugly. But I did rebuild it and redid the wiring (this was when I was 16) with my Dads help.

beginning to think that pulling the motor out the top would be easier right now...but I dont have the lift brackets for my motor anymore...what can I clamp onto to pull the motor out (heads will be off the motor)...should I maybe just be clamping onto the motor mount brackets that extend out?

I have a cherry picker (I hope by this you mean an engine lift), but I dont know how to drop it out the bottom while supporting the transmission...thats my biggest problem...once its down im figureing I can roll it out with an ATV

put a couple head bolts in the block diagnolly, one in drivers side bank rear and one in passenger side front. when you run them into the block run them through the chain links. then connect hoist and lift. removing the engine mounts will help substantually. then support trans and seperate and lift out. Thats how i took mine out and it only took about 15 min of taking my time to get it out, beer breaks, and about 30 min putting it back in with me and my pops. way easy if you ask me. :naughty:

There's 2 bolts at the top of the bell housing that are hard to get a socket on. I want to say I used 2 swivels and at least 2 - 12" extensions on a 1/2" ratchet. Dont forget to remove the inspection plate if its a manual.
