  • time for a motor swap.

I'm about a day or two away from buying an L26 motor but still have some questions. I know i'll have to swap over the upper and lower intake, throttle body, front cover with oil filter outlet, oil pan, and alternator bracket. Other than that, is there anything else? any small details that are left out of the other posts?

Will it mount directly in without any modification to the motor mounts?

will the t5 transmission bellhousing bolt right up to it? I'll also have to swap out my flywheel as well i'm sure.

Is there anything else i'm missing? thanks

Re: time for a motor swap.

I'm about two days from starting mine. Not a bad swap, but very labor intensive due to the way the engine is in the car.

Here is everything you should swap to the new engine.

    Oil pan and pickup.
Oil filter adapter, FWD will not clear a/c. Front timing covers, balancer, crank/cam sensors and knock sensors are the same between the two engines.
Swap valve covers or just swap the FWD ones side to side. If you leave them the oil fill will be right at the brake booster.
Upper, lower intakes and fuel rail w/injectors.
    All brackets and accessories.
    flywheel or flexplate.
    exhaust manifolds.
Water pumps and pulleys are the same as well. I put a new one on mine while it was out anyway and used the birds pulley. They look to be the same so it shouldnt matter.

If you get your engine from up north (like I did) have a thread cleaning tap on hand to clean out the holes needed for the motor mounts and other brackets. Mine had rust built up in them and I could not thread the bolts in until they were cleaned. Most the the bracket holes needed for the camaro/bird stuff is not used ona FWD setup. This allows water/dirt to fill the holes. They are there in the correct spot and threaded, but will probably be dirty. At the least they will need to be blown out. I needed a M6x1.0, M8x1.25, M10x1.50 and M12x1.75.

Motor mounts bolt right up. Dont forget the brackets that run from the block to trans. I did and they are nearly impossilbe to get on with the engine/trans in the car. Mine are staying off until I do my manual swap.

T5/4L60 will bolt right up, bellhousing patterns are the same.

If you have any more questions, just ask....
