I got my motor out this weekend, it was kinda a pita, but it could have been worse. I took the top end off the old motor before anything because there's not enough room in the garage to lift the car and keep the engine assembled. The only problem I ran into is my dolly I was using to roll the motor and tranny out with broke while it was still under the car. Cheapo harbor freaght dolly that's rated at 1000 lbs.the only things I have to swap to the new motor are the oil filter extension, the power steering, and my clutch & flywheel. So tonight when I get off work ill hopefully be ready to put the new motor on the k member.

You need a pulley puller to get the power steering pump off right???

There are holes in the pulley you line up with the bolt heads to get at them.

yup 2 bolts hold it on...plus the hardline in the side...but once you get the two front bolts off she just slides off the studs

Thanks for the helpfull replies guys. Yeah I'm a moron, all it took was a second to realize I could fit a deep socket through the pulley.

              Re: motor swap progress

Last night I started to torque my flywheel bolts down, and guess what happend? I snapped the first one off in the crank. Imagine that. Those bolts are all new as of last july too. After that I just gave up on it for the night because I had a horrible day at work and that was the icing on the cake. So I just went and drank some beer.

11 foot lbs. Seems kinda low to me, I thought I torqued them down way more last time.

                    Re: motor swap progress

Our factory flywheel bolts are TTY. Its best to replace them every time; especially if your only using grade 5. Dont forget to loctite em.

ya its 11ft lbs then something like a 90* turn...like stated they are tty, hopefull you can get that snapped bolt out without pulling the motor...that will suck.

                        Re: motor swap progress

Hey guys, sorry its been so long since I've written. I had to put a hold on my project for a while, but it's almost done now. I ended up getting that bolt out of the crank and I went and got some grade 5 bolts for my flywheel. Guess what happened??? I snapped the first one off again. So I decided to get some grade 8 bolts for it, and again I snapped one off. Well after that I decided to take my torque wrench in and trade it out under warranty because I thought it was out of calibration. It's a 10-150 pound wrench, but it wasnt reading. Anyway after I got a new bolt and torqued them all down re-assembly was real smooth. I started the car last night for the first time, and it fired right up. The only problem I know of is it's misfiring real bad, and I think its because of my plug wires. Back in January or February I bought some of those ZZP 10.5 mm wires, but when I put them on they don't all "click" on the coils and plugs. I'll get that figured out tomorrow, then all I have to do is bleed the brakes and Im done.

                          Re: motor swap progress

Whats up y'all? I got the misfire issue figured out yesterday, I had to pull the plug wires off the coil packs and I put an old spark plug in them and crimped them down. Now it seems to run fine, but it smokes like a chimney. Any thoughts as to why its smoking? It's supposed to only have 59xxx miles on it.

Let it run awhile and see if it clears up.

What color is the smoke? Blueish or white? How long did you run it?
