  • Blew up my motor - need ideas...

    Headgasket blew and it hydrolocked... I don't know yet the extent of the damage but I'm out of an engine for the time being..

    I was looking at Car-Part at the price of the GTP S/C'd engines... If I picked one up for $1k... what all would SAFELY interchange from my existing motor onto the GTP motor and what all would I need to seek SEPERATELY?

    I was thinking of running a Powerdyne or Procharger setup on the forged bottom end...

    What years did the GTP's come with forged bottom ends?

    Also what would I need to make this a successfull conversion? Along with ANY FWD 3.8 motor for that matter...

      yeah everything series 3 is better, better rods, bigger exhaust valves... and i got my engine locally for $850 with 11,000 miles on it. there should be a place in lithonia that has good engine deals.

      the conversion requires all the rwd bolt ons off your engine. youll have to pull out studs and all sorts of stuff, but the main components are the intake, front cover, all the accessories, rear cover, oil pan.

        The only thing you can use from the super charged engine is the short block, minus the oil pan. The heads don't work on N/A cars.

          Okay...

          On top of this, I'm looking to run 10 PSI of boost and maybe a cam - depending on the application whether its an S/C or Turbo.

          I was leaning more toward the S/C as I intend to be content with the PSI level I choose and I want ease of install and I hear S/C's are more reliable than Turbo's...

          What should I do motorwise to ensure that it would hold this for at least 100k miles?

            I have an L26 (Series III from a 06 grand prix) with 51k miles for sale for $300. Only about a 2.5 hr ride from ATL too. Come get it!!!!

            It may need headgaskets, but you wont find a better deal and all total you will have mayber $600 in the engine after you get it in the car.

              as far as these engine go, without F/I these things last forever as long as you dont over heat them.

              as far as the s/c on the fwd engines, you cant (well you can if you fab up a crazy intake, someone did it, but its only worth like 40hp) use the s/c cause the pulley is on one end and the intake on the other. i say this as an FYI not in any way to insult your intelligence.

              the thing is, the s/c engine have the injectors bungs in the heads, so the rwd stuff wont work cause the heads are different. if you are worried about compression ratio or something to that effect then you may need to consider dished pistons, thicker head gaskets, or cc-ing the combustion chamber to get the specific C/R you want that is boost friendly.

                L67's have cast rods and Hyperutectic cast pistons. L32's have powdered metal rods. Some early L32's received left over L67 cast rods.

                  L32 rods are forged powder coatings so they are stronger than L67 rods , thats why I went with L32 rods and so did alot of FWD owners at the time they came out.

                    Would it be wiser just to get a late model L32 Block and run 9 PSI of Boost and a cam?

                    Im probably going to go with an S/C (Not the M90..Either Powerdyne or Procharger) due to ease of install and running a cam on top of that.

                    But if I DID go Turbo, 10 PSI wont hurt a late model L32 would it?

                    If it would, then would L67 at 15 PSI be okay?

                      Turbo would be easier to do , I would think 10 PSI wouldn't hurt anything as long as you have Hptuners , Wideband , and fuel / PSI gauge. To monitor how it is running and KR the main thing. L32 would be more like 15 PSI same as L67 , just depends on your cam choice.

                        I think you would be much better served asking those questions on a GP related forum. Most people around here don't have practical experience with those parts.

                          Great!, so your saying I don't know my parts....LOL Hes right though ClubGP would be a better place as far as cams and parts go for a L67 or L32.

                            Okay, went to ClubGP.

                            I have more questions though.

                            Will everything else besides the Heads from the L67 work in my car? Will I need to change any of the accessories out?

                            If I decided to just go with a FWD L36 and powerdyne it, where can I get a kit?
                            How much would it cost to procharge instead?
                            If I Turbo instead, will the L36 hold 10 PSI reliably or would I be better off going up to 15 PSI on the L67? I don't want to run meth on either of them.

                              to use an L67, or any fwd 3.8 for that matter the heads/oil pan/ LIM/UIM? oil filter adapter plate all must be changed. And if you use the fwd valve covers you have to reverse the sides they are on...
