So its time to start building up a engine for my car sense i am about to break 200,000 im picking up a engine for pretty cheap. Its from a 2001 and i want to put it in my car a 1996 what all do i have to do to make it work. All i can think of is throttle body, maybe intake, maybe ECU, anything else? And im going to be taking it completely apart and building it up for a turbo build. what all should i get and do to the engine to get some power. As far as the lower end, top end, pistons, heads, cam kit, rocker arms, everything. This is something i really dont know about. So any suggestions and tips would really help thank you

As far as Turbo goes talk to insane abott he built his own turbo. But kid honestly you should consider a nitrous system instead.

There are tons of people who built their own turbo kits on here.

yeah just a turbo build sounds like a lot of fun and i love the feeling of a turbo when you hit the gas.

Yea I vote turbo, It will be more work and money but in the end it will be nicer. If you're already rebuilding the whole motor why not...(aside from more money)

upper intake. use the exhaust manifolds from the 01 engine. other wise, everything else should be the same.

On the topic of turbo, would the STS system for an LS1 work in the same model v6?

Physically, it should line up pretty well. Will require obvious modification for the throttle body location. However, with the wrong turbo, you're going to have a good amount lag.

Same thing, upper bodies, TB mani's and shoulf be good to go. As far as turbo or nitrous , I would go turbo if your looking at long yrtm out of it , niy its going to cost you aloy more in the end.

Unless you have a lot of skill and acess to alot of different tools chances are you are either going to spend a ton and get no were at all or won't be able to build it at all.

Nitrous is something very simple and within a weekend or so you could be back on the road the following week.

Thats my recomendation if your a novice.

If you get a turbo that is too big for the 3.8, it will take a long time to spool up. On the opposite end, if your turbo is too small, you'll see the boost very quickly, but will also choke the turbo in the higher end RPMs.

I know alot of people that do this everyday. And they've seen my car suffer with the pretty much stock v6 for the longest time and they want to help make it have a sick engine. And the turbo kit im going to custom fabricate with log style headers while the 01 motor is out of the car (I have an in at a local metal work and welding shop and i can get everything for free and the owner is going to teach me how to weld so i will do all the fab myself). and do all the piping and stuff while its out of the car.

And a couple more question will the transmission fit right up. and what about my pcm do i need to get a 97?? and can you do the pvc mod on a stock motor just to get it out of the way of alot of projects i have??
