  • Cheapest way to hit 400 HP

Ok I know this is a dumb question but what would be the cheapest cost wise to hit 400 hp on my F body. (Current 2000 v6 camaro). These are some of the possibilities I have been looking up to do. I want it to be my daily driver and pretty reliable.

1.Stay V6, forge internals build up a turbo, and transmission

    2. buy a Ls1, supercharge it and swap it in

    3. buy a donor z28 and swap everything over

    4.buy a 5.3 truck engine, build n/a or FI

5.Tell me to shut up because I don't know what Im talking about...

lol seriously though, I am looking to hit 400 Hp with the least amount of $$$ and reliability high as well. I will be saving up.

i have heard this many times.
    1)cost
    2)reliability
    3)power

    choose two.

Nitrous on a v6 would probably be cheaper. But not really the best for a DD. But if you go LS/LT1 you don't need to go FI. Get a solid engine, throw some heads and a decent cam in, with some boltons you can get 400 pretty easy out of those. I have a buddy with a LT1 Trans Am, 420 rwhp on stock cam.. But if you go outside what comes in the car, get an iron block 6.0 out of a truck. Or if you wanna get crazy get re 8.1L out of a 3500, assuming it would fit.

Sell the V6 and buy an LS1.

The V6 is 200hp you would need to double the output.

With the LS1 your starting with 350hp(I don't care what the factory says, they lied)

        Bolt ons get you 400hp.

Actually, the V6 starts around 170 and the LS1 starts around 300.

But I agree, fastest way to get there is to start with an LS1 and do bolt ons to get to 400.

Hmmmm... Wish I still had my Honda. I'd bust your Trans Am up with that, believe that!

Who cares about dyno numbers. Decide how quick you wanna be, and get to that goal. My setup made a **** hair over 300rwhp and mops the floor with a lot of heads/cam cars.

Nope, there were plenty of Hondas that were faster than mine.

I'd have to put my lightweight jockey on it though... He still needs some practice.

because crank hp is more of a reliable number, the same car can dyno 300hp, and 375hp on the same day with no changes on different dynos
