  • Is it finished? Is it really gone?

Noted from this thread here - http://forum.camarov6.com/showthread.php?t=102887 - I blew my engine...or atleast I believe pretty strongly...

It has close to 150k on the clock. I got off the interstate and noticed white smoke steaming from the hood, then I saw it steaming out the exhaust... I was forced to drive it instead of towing and the temps pegged for a good 10 minutes and by the time I got it parked it barely had any power left...

    Well

I went to crank it just to see if it would at least run... First off, the battery was dead and I had to jump start it. Second... Here's what would happen... The ignition would turn and it would try to crank...most of the times it wouldnt crank...but on the occasions it did, it would idle VERY rough for about 3 seconds, and then die... Then if you pressed the gas pedal to deliver fuel to the engine to keep it alive, it would just die instantly...

Does this sound like a blown headgasket to you? and MUCH MORE importantly..does it sound like additional damage was done? I.E. Hydrolock, bearings, bent / broken rods - ect...

What would you do, risk $800 and replace the gasket and get it rolling again if it works but if it doesn't pay $2,000 on top of that for an overhaul? Or pay $1,500 upfront for another engine installed?

Sounds like time for an engine. Any metal on metal sounds?

Cant get it running long enough to find out. It just idles very very rough and quits shortly after. Cranking it sounds normal... only it takes ALOT longer before it tries to run... and when it finally does (after several tries)...it quits shortly after. Nothing sounds VERY different, just wont run.

Stop trying to crank it. That's only going to make things worse. Oil in the coolant or coolant in the oil?

Yea...the oil cap has yellow stuff all over the inside off it and the oil seems murky / milky brown

Yea, that's a head gasket at the very least. If you want to try and save that block you need to drain all the oil and coolant. Pull the plugs and squirt some oil into each cylinder until you can pull the heads. It sounds like at least one of the cylinders is full of coolant. I wouldn't waste much time pulling the heads, the cylinder walls will rust over.

Hopefully it's just a head gasket. Inspect the exterior of the block for any cracks or connecting rods protruding.

first things first. if you can do it yourself, pull the engine out and tear it down, thats free if you do it yourself. have the block/heads vat cleaned and inspected, check for cracks. the last thing you wanna do is put tons of money into a cracked block or bad set of heads. that will tell you which path to take. if all checks out, you can probably have the crank turned, hone the cyl, put all new bearings in and put it back together.
