  • Need input, new cam...

Okay, so im really tired of the poor streetability of the car since going up to the GT2. Car almost dies when coming to a stop, and often does. It's gotten to the point where I have to double foot it all the time. It has been tuned, but with that said HPtuners doesn't give you a lot of options for idle trims ('02 DBW car) like on the LS1's so this is really screwing me. I have spent hours on the dyno trying to straighten this out. Many of you know I have a powerdyne on the car now. Obviously the GT2 is less than ideal for this so I have decided to swap cams once again. I am trying to decide between the VS cam and the X-P HOT cam.

Steve, I know you have had good luck with the VS cam. How was it to tune, streetability?

As far as my top end goes I have 1.7 rockers and the guides have been cut down. I just dont want to run into tunability issues once again. Is the lift that I am running and will run killing me here? I was more convinced that it was the LSA and intake/exhasut centerline. I figured this because that was really all that changed when i went from the GT1 to the GT2 as lift is the same. Plaese any input would be great.

Did you modify the MAF tables below 3000hz? I did that once and it died on me every time I started to coast. Set the MAF table back to stock below that and you should be fine.

What is your idle rpm at the moment?

I'd tell you if I knew but I am not the one doing the tuning. I have a guy that is a huge chevy guy that does it for me. Always does a great job. Car ran wonderfully when it had the GT1, but after the switch it just has that weird azz problem. Regardless it is now a blower car so the GT2 is not suited for it.

Okay, what is the tune for the car right now? Is it from before you installed the GT2 and blower? I think the GT2 will be fine, there's just something in the tune that is amiss. It sounds exactly like what my car was doing. I'd have to keep the throttle in it even while idling at the stoplight. Changed those values back to stock and they worked just fine.

I get what your saying but now it is a moot point now. It has a newer tune for the GT2 among other things.

I dont think its an issue with the lift as much as the overlap of the valves that your battling. You'll get more out of your boost with the XP or the VS anyways. The XP looks more aggressive, but if your wanting more of a balance with street manners maybe you should go with the VS.

VS cam is very streetable, doesn't really need a tune but if idling for awhile it will set a PO300. Does well with boost and nitrous, was a very good N/A cam as well. I have my idle set at 900RPMS does great.

Thanks for the input Steve. I will probobly end up goin with the VS cam then. Now all i need to do is get motivated enough to tear into the car once again.

If you figure the stock cam is like 186/196 115LS and the VS cam is 206/216 115LS your just putting in a bigger stock cam is the way I see it. LOL
