Hi guys, This is my first post but I'm a big fan.
    I have a 94 3.4l v6 auto tran camaro with about 175.000
looks like that I will need to replace the fuel pressure regulator and I have couple of questions:
ALL DATA shows that the fuel injector rail need to be removed in order to replace FPR.
    is this really necessary?
Looks like to me that would be a lot easier just to unbolt the FPR from the top!
    What do you guys think?
I see some replace diaphragms on line but no complete fuel pressure regulator

    Thanks for your time.

Really don't know on a 3.4 , but on a 3.8 its easier to remove the fuel rail and snap the other one out and install a new one, if someone else with a 3.4 can abnswer your question then that would be great.

      Re: fuel pressure regulator

I replaced the one on my 94 last year. You have to get a tamper proof T15 torx driver from your local hardware store and it pops right off. No need to remove the fuel rail. Advance Auto has the diaphram for these cars. They come with extra parts that you don't need. Hope this helps.

        Re: fuel pressure regulator

If you look at the screws that hold the FPR to your fuel rail you will notice that they have some type of security screw in it. I'm sure there is a tool for it but I didn't have one. I did remove mine on the car. What you need to do is to break the center tab off. I believe I used an old screwdriver or center punch (It was a long time ago) and a hammer. Once the center tab is gone you can use an allen key or a torx key to remove it. Once I removed all the screws I replaced them with some stainless steel cap screws.

            Re: fuel pressure regulator

            Hey guys,
I'd change the FPR and the car still have problems with startup and smell of raw gas just like before (i dont see any gas leaks)
I check for vac leaks with a carb cleaner spray but nothing.
Today I'm changing the fuel pump, lets see if that will fix it it.
If somebody have any ideas just let me know.
            thanks

              Re: fuel pressure regulator

I HIGHLY doubt it's the fuel pump. I'd start by identify where the smell is coming from. I'd bet a dollar that you need injector o-rings or you have a leaking injector.

X2 on leaking injector, also check your hoses.

                  Re: fuel pressure regulator

                  thanks guys,
so if the car smell like raw gas when driven is injector "o" rings but does that affect engine hard starts too?
is funny cause if the gas tank is below 1/2 it gets harder to start (need cycle the key 6 to 7 times)
I also checked all fuel lines even under the car and the are fine.
my fuel pump is really old and is very loud too, so I know it needs replacing,
this what i did so far:
                  clean TB and air filter
                  new spark plugs
                  new fuel pump relay
                  new fuel pressure regulator
                  new fuel filter
the car is running fine after it starts if was not for the gas smell and below average gas mile
thanks again for all your help

                    Re: fuel pressure regulator

Yes injector O rings can make it hard to start.

                      Re: fuel pressure regulator

Also, I had the gas cap on my car go bad. I smelled like raw gas until I replaced it. but that shouldn't have anything to do with it hard starting. If you are going thru the trouble of replacing the o-rings, I would get a set of injectors and replace them. I ordered mine last week from www.injectorwhse.com. $149 for the set of 6, $30 core and $13 shipping. Car runs better, except for the sometimes miss, gets better mileage and starts on the first hit of the key. I will post what my mileage went up to next time I fill up.

                        Re: fuel pressure regulator

                        hello again,
ssms5411 your camaro is bad ***! congrats
I did take the fuel rail and injectors out (what a F*%$ pain was it) the "O" rings are fine and no leaks, the injectors look like new too but I replace the "O" rings anyway since I had the hole system out.
I also replace the fuel pump and the engine is cranking faster now (at least for the moment maybe because the tank is full) and looks like its running more smoothly too (maybe the new "O" rings have something to do with it)
The fuel cap is just a year old , but thanks for the suggestion.
I can still smell raw gas when cruising with the windows down (more so when the engine is hot)
Now 2 things I forgot to mention:
when accelerating hard with the a/c on the cold air stops blowing in the front vents and and redirects to the floor.
And I know I know somebody will suggest that I should use a scan tool for my second problem ( I have the old/new hybrid ob port, so the paper clip dont work and autozone dont have a connector for it)
                        ok enough of that.
The "check engine" light comes on every time when i m driving above 65mph and have to step on the breaks, but if i step on the breaks with my left foot and rev the engine at the same time the check engine light wont come on at all!
maybe this have something to do with this other problems.
anyway sorry for the "novel" that i m writing on this post.
and many many many thanks to all

Sounds like you've got a vacuum leak.

                            Re: fuel pressure regulator

My 94 did the check engine light like yours did. The EGR passage in the intake was plugged up. Take the pipe off the side of the intake and the throttle body off. There is a pipe plug on the bottom on the intake. It is a 5/16 square. I used a 3/8 tap. Screwed 2 nuts onto it and tightened them together, put the square end up into the plug and use the nuts to back out the plug. If you have a cordless drill and a short piece of speedo cable (who has those anymore?) and a can of carb/brake cleaner, this will get it cleaned out.

                              hey guys thanks
techsan23: I did check for leaks all over using carburetor cleaner spray and I cant find one

Opontee: I'm sorry man but I'm trying to understand the egr valve thing, do you have any pics? and what's a speedo cable?
Opontee I really appreciate your help but I not that smart to figure this this out
i'll take a look at this tomorrow.
                              thanks guys and good night
