hey guys thanks
techsan23: I did check for leaks all over using carburetor cleaner spray and I cant find one
Opontee: I'm sorry man but I'm trying to understand the egr valve thing, do you have any pics? and what's a speedo cable?
Opontee I really appreciate your help but I not that smart to figure this this out
i'll take a look at this tomorrow.
thanks guys and good night
The search function on the forum helps sometimes, don't say you're not smart. just gotta keep poking around and reading!
Wait, Is that a V6 or V8? 1990 Chevrolet C-K 1500 series 4.3L .. 5spd
1994 JDM Euno Roadster 1.8L 5spd Bolt Ons.. etc 2000 Camaro 3.8L Auto Bolt Ons..etc
Yea, don't say your not smart, you just need to figure it out. Older cars before the early 90's actually had a cable off of the back of the trans the drove the speedo.
The EGR valve is on the right exhaust manifold. the is a tube that runs from that exhaust manifold to the right side of the intake. A couple of 10mm bolt head bolts that hold it on each end. Take that tube off. And there is a passage in the intake that runs into the intkae right behind that throttle body.
This is about as good of a picture that I could find. The EGR tube bolts onto the side of the intake just to the left of the 3.4 casting in this picture.
Here is another decent pic. You see the unpainted part of the intake with the 2 bolts in it? this is where you EGR tube bolts to, and this is what is clogged up in the intake. I'm not sure why it says MG, but it is the closeset pic I could find that looks very similiar.
Thanks for the moral support! You guys are right it's all about the learning!
I just finish cleaning that hole on the intake I used some carb cleaner and compressed air.
Also I cleaned the tb too for good mesure.
Opontee thanks for the pics they help me understand the problem
I'll post the results later on
one againg thanks for all your help
and a good weekend to all
Hey, thanks for asking.
I still have the "check engine" light on the road but now is not all the time (maybe I need to drive couple more times)
The smell of gas still there and the vac leak too.
smell of gas only when engine is hot
vac leak only noticeable when driving hard and ac is on
other than that the engine is running smooth and starting right up so I know I'm getting there!
Thanks for your help again
MIne used to smell like raw gas also until I changed the injectors. I did not notice an external leak. I am just wondering if they were not closing all the way and would make the car run rich. I did pick up about 2 mpg on the highway after the change out. Also, I had a pressure gauge hooked up and it would not hold pressure but a couple of minutes after I turned the engine off. I havn't checked it since the injector swap. My wifes LS1 would hold pressure for over 15 minutes.
Yes, this gas smell is driving me crazy, do you think autozone would check the fuel pressure for free or do I need to buy the tool.
If is a leaking injector do you think that a good fuel system cleaner will do the job?
My mpg is about 19 to 21 (when I drive like an old lady) what's yours Opontee?
I'm reading some posts about "egr delete" and everybody have a different opinion about it, some times I thing I should remove my. not fo any horse power gain but just for the fact that this egr valves are always troublesome.
Do you think that the gas smell can be caused by the vacuum leak?
Thanks again Opontee for all your help.
Do you think that the gas smell can be caused by the vacuum leak?
Sure it can cause the smell. If the 3.4 is like the 3.8 then you will have an evap canister switch and an evap canister purge valve that makes up the evap system, and operates off of vacuum. At the front of the engine bay there should be a diagram to show the vacuum line routing. If its not a leaky injector it will most likely be your evap system.
Thanks Techsan23, I know I do have a evap system somewere in there (next to the intake) there's a valve I think.
Do you think there's a way to check if the valve is working the way it shoul?
Thanks for your help.
Im not sure if there is a way to check the valve, but you could pull the vacuum line off of it and put your finger to the line while the car is running to at least see if it is getting any vacuum.
Hey, how is everybody?
I just fund and fix what is (hopefully) the last vacuum leak, the line was broken right next to the vacuum canister (what a pain)
also I took out and cleaned egr valve, checked all 3 solenoids and they are open and closing.
now lets see if this will fix it.
I can't thank you guys enough for all the help provided.
I'll let you guys know the results this week.
have a good week everyone!
Sounds great, those vaccum leaks can suck. Hope it works out for ya.

Hello everybody,
I will seafom and change the oil this weekend, maybe this will help with the
raw smell of gas and the "check engine" light.
And I think there's still a vac leak somewhere cause the ac vents still change to the bottom when i floor it just now it takes longer to switch.
Now i just discover one more problem this weekend!!!! It's the radiator fan, it doesn't come on at all when the engine is hot but if I turn the ac on the fan turn on as well.
I've replaced the t-stat and the coolant sensor 6 weeks ago so I think they are working fine
also I check the fan fuse switch some relays around (ac relay with fan relay) and still nothing\
I've check some of the info on the forum but no luck so far.
any help will be hugely appreciated
and thanks for the support
Alex
It's the radiator fan, it doesn't come on at all when the engine is hot but if I turn the ac on the fan turn on as well.
The stock settings for the fans are way too high. It is designed to come on whenever the ac is on though. Most of us have wired a switch to the hi fan relay to manually turn it on when needed. You can wire in your own switch, or I have seen a kit before, but dont remember where off the top of my head. Another option is to change your fan settings in the computer via mail order tune, hp tuners etc. And dont run power to the relay; you ground it to get it to kick on.
