The chain is going to fit pretty tight since it eliminates the tensioner. I want to say I had to work both of the gears on at the same time to get it on. You'll need a rubber mallet.

One more question do I need a case relearn after doing the double roller?

Sorry to thread jack, but has any one had ANY luck using HPTuners to do CASE relearn? Mine won't work right. I'm in park, brake on, hand brake on, coolant hot, it claims the car is moving (like 1-2mph it shows.)

I haven't done it, but was going to once the double roller is on. Good question.

My local Chevy dealer did it for FREE.

Re: Those with double roller chains

Steve, have the crank piece rechamfered!...and use "blue" to make sure it is seated right...many of the dbl roller failures are due to the chain not being 100% straight and pulling on a slightly angle. If you look at your stock crank gear chamfer and the new double roller you'll see the double roller crank gear doesn't have a deep enough lip. Whip it over to a machine shop with your stock piece and have them correct it or you may be regretting it later!

My CASE on HPTuners worked fine - maybe email those guys if you have problems?

For my JP set, the crank gear was way too tight we did a little clearancing and opened the chamfer a bit, been running maybe 30k miles I should pop open the front cover for a look some day (I used the double gasket clearance method, should get a milled oil pump cover)

I installed a rollmaster double roller on mine. I didn't modify anything and as far as I can tell there's enough clearance. I've heard no whining or anything of the sort. However, I'll really be able to tell when I pull the cover. It was tight and a pain to get on but it will go if you really line up the two sprockets properly.

You wouldn't know without using "blue"...its off ever so slightly what happens is one chain gets loaded up more than the other, it wears faster and eventually can give out...by correcting the chamfer you are insuring that both chains are equally taking the load.

Remeber the double rollers are actually built for out australian counterparts irrc, not for us, they are very similar, but this is why the chamfer tends to be out a little.

You won't have any extra hard/easy time getting the chain on/off and there will be no weird noises...the chamfer just affects how the chain sits and lines up because the bottom crank gear can't slid back as far as it should (see the little lip that's on the crank)

Something that should have been brought to my attention like 3 years ago.. Ohhh well. I think I'll just look into a v8 swap if this engine dies.

Lol, I read about it when I replaced my last motor ans checked it with the blue and sure enough it was the case...quick trip to the machine shop fixed it all up nice lol

You could always pull the front cover and chain and just do it...it's not too hard...afternoon of work maybe? I also swapped out my rollmaster chain for a cloyes chain...I have a brand new dbl roller rollmaster chain sitting here if you need it lol (chain only)
