We tried putting back my RK Sport headers but the ARP head studs are in the way. Those with ARP head studs did you have any problems with fitting your heads back on and also what brand of headers are you running? Thanks in advance.
I know I can't use my RK headers unless I grind the flange of the header or cut down the ARP studs.

sh*t, I thought it was just me that had this issue!!! I ran into this problem the first time I rebuilt the motor, I had to have the bottom of the header flange licked so that I could get my headers back on and lined up...I'm guessing the bolt stretched (which is what they normally do) but I didnt think ARP's were supposed to stretch that much.
Second time I rebuilt my motor I went out and bought new ARP headstuds because I was unsure of the old ones...
I have Pacesetter headers, and it was never an issue on the first install!

Are the studs all the way down in the block? I had this problem the first time I did my heads with them and I had to grind the bottom of my pacesetters because I didn't have them all the way down. I was told to screw them all the way in, then back them off 1/3 of a turn and I didn't have any problems after. I ended up grinding my headers for no reason :mad:

mine were all the way in 2nd time around and I had an issue...I spent HOURS trying to get my headers back in before I gave up and said F it I'm driving to the exhaust shop...then when it went up on the hoist we saw the issue...it's weird
Looks like I'll be grinding my RK's down a bit. Thanks for your guys help , the studs are hand tightened into the block so theres just no room for the thick flanges.

Are they hand tightened, or did you run them down with an allen wrench? That's where I got messed up when I did mine when they got tight by hand the studs were still too tall.

Heres a pic of one of the studs: Can someone tell me if its suppose to be that high?
No, that is too high. There should have been two different lengths to the head studs, one smaller size for the lower side of the CC's, and one longer size for the top side of the CC's. It looks like there you got them backwards, and used the longer ones on the lower side.
I have the same pic of bolt, with the SAME head studs here...
Were they in two different lengths, or did you get one length for all the studs?

There were 2 different ones , long ones went in the head side , smaller went into the outter holes, these are about 2 year old ARP head studs I've had. I just ordered stockers because I'd rather pay $40 for stock ones and not $365 for Pacesetter headers that may or may not work. Thanks for the pics.

OK. My fault the studs weren't all the way in , retighten 1 of them and it went down to Mobo's pic, thanks for the pick again you just saved me $40 and alot of headache.

Looks like there's about a 1/4" left to go to turn into the block, did they go all the way in? The only drawback I see to having them stick out a little long is that they're going to be that much more of a pain in the **** to get the heads off again if that ever happens. Other than that, maybe a header clearance problem like you're describing. I have pacesetters, but I couldn't imagine any of the head studs being a clearance issue the way I installed them with any header brand. Could be wrong though....

There ya go.
Id say for future reference for ANYONE replacing the heads, with either studs or bolts, to make sure the threads are clean in the block before install. The factory bolts usually have that red threadlocker on there, and that stuff sticks to the threads pretty well. Clean the holes with a thin bristle brush, or even a tap if you're bold enough and not stupid with it, but the difference between dirty threads and clean ones is huge.
