    Re: valve spring tool?

i had some jimmy piece of junk from advanced auto. I had to use bolts to put into the rocker holes with washers, then C-clamp the head to my work bench. It wasn't easy, but it got the job done for less than $7.

I use a ratcheting c-clamp style for when the heads are off the car...

man with the heads off its soooo easy with pretty much ANY tool, i had to use one of these POS tools to do the springs w/o removing the heads: http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...500_AA300_.jpg

I would definitely recommend anything other than that for when the heads are off the car.

^That's the one I used too.

Don't point it at anybody's face while loosening or tightening the springs. Nothing like letting loose 300+lbs of sprung force on somebody.

Yea.. I mean it wasn't the worst thing I've had to do to my car by far. It's not even difficult, it's just unpleasant. I find that some things are satisfying to work on and some things aren't. Dealing with the valve spring tool and valve retainers was not on my list of things I enjoy doing.

I thought changing my springs was pretty fun. Did em with the heads on and used the tool that Shodown and Warshrike used. Not that I'd want to do a lot of them, but I enjoyed it.
